Update on my WR start-up adventure...
For those of you that care and might have read about my first day of practice I thought I would give you an update as to where I am standing with my business.
I went down to my court house and got a 'doing business as' certificate for 'First Glass Windshield Repair'. This was an easy hurdle and the cost was only $13.00. I considered designing my own logo but....I suck at graphic design so I opted to have it designed. I am naturally a penny pincher but this wasn't something that I wanted to skimp on. I did however design my business card and I am okay with how it came out. I still might work on it a little bit more. I also reserved the domain names for my business name as well. All of this ran me about $40 and includes a year of hosting. I have also opened a bank account and ordered checks.
Whats left on my to-do list is order shirts, business cards, set up EDI and liability insurance. I was consdering using eDirectGlass Lite, but with that can I get on the Harmon network or is it just Safelite and lynx? I am still a little confused with how all of the networks work.

yes, edirect does allow you to bill harmon. They just got set up with them recently. I would also recomend you get some nice door signs or vinyl graffics, they work... Also make sure you have a fax up and running, always answer your phone, and start husling to get some business. I have been loving this since the day i went to training, and every day is a learning experience, but well worth it.
P.s- just a note, when i first started i set up with edirect, and although it was fine, i found a.c.t to have a more full service that i was looking for. It's almost like your own team of employees trying to help you. Much easier, but also more costly. Just my 2 cents, look into both a.c.t and e-direct.
best of luck

As far as setting up my fax goes, I am considering doing eFax because it is free to receive, but how often will I have to send faxes?
Re: Update on my WR start-up adventure...
I don't have edirect and I need to fax after every insurance referral. we just bought a cheap brothers fax machine, and have a different number on our main phone line ( called distictive ring in my area) definately make sure you always answer the phone it isn't very often they just fax the job to you but it does happen.

I just recieved my business cards from Vista Print and they look amazing! I also used Queensboro for my T-shirts and got a super deal. Not too much left to do. I am going to concentrate on doing the fleets first so I am going to wait on the insurance and setting myself up with an EDI system.
Anyone have any advice for me before my first day of heading out?

I had to have my insurance first for some of my fleets. Some even asked for proof of insurance.

I found a great place to find services such as logo design. You post your job request (and price) and dozens of people offer proposals. I ended up working out a barter so the logo cost me nothing!
