To yellow book or not

Post by zachb »

I met with a yellow book rep a few days ago and can get a one inch ad for $55 a month and the book is being distributed to 900,000 people throughout the metro. Just wondering if you people that have tried this route before think it would be worth the expense or not? Thanks

I really don't see the need advertising in the Yellow Pages , I could have signed up free of charge a while back , but figured there was some catch to it , because like I said befor nothing comes free , so I passed waist of money.
My experience is that people drive around with chips or cracks in their windshields and handle by influx when they see you somewhere or anywhere.
Cold canvassing pays off better, more work but for 55 bucks you sipp a lot of coffee.

I would say or not. When I first started back in 1998 I ran an add in the yellow book. I got 1 call out of it. I think more people use the computer than the yellowbook. Try superpages.com.

I went in the phone book last yr at a very reduced price and I did it because it was in not only under glass but also under "windshield repair"...I did maybe 5 retail repairs....all the calls are for replacement and some for house glass ....even when I put "repair only".. never again..

I agree to some extent that it might not be the best place to invest your money on a stand alone effort. Advertising is a necessary evil to get public awareness up, unfortunately it takes advertising in many sources long term to get the exposure. I don't about everyone else but my pockets are not deep enough for that so I try to pick and choose where might be best based on what I can afford. Remember, it is a tax write off as well depending on how you are running your business.

I have tried three different placemat ads in three different diners in different areas thinking it might have something to do with peoples mentality in different areas. I am here to tell you in my neck of the woods it has not worked so well to date. Actually, not one job and only one call for a replacement. I will look at another advertising outlet when the placemats run there course.

If you want major expossure and can afford it. I think a well designed billboard will get you noticed depending on where it is. That does not mean you will get all the business you hoped for though. I always look at the billboards on my area highways so others must be as well.

From experience, this is a waste of money. The Yellow page ads are way overpriced and I never came close to paying for it from the return I got.
Cold calls are the best. Face to face.
Flyers are useless also. Nail on street signs are very good if you can get away with it. You can't here. Gestapo land.

Aint that bad Jerry, it's still a free country we live in.
I had 2 banners too close to the highway and had to move them back behind the powerlines , rules are rules we have to live by.
I'm allowed to park my camper with advertisement up to 30 ft from the white line of the road.
Plan to have a huge sign with strobe light and Texas flag on top of my camper.........sure this will catch the eye .
On one of the trees at my location I plan to nail a billboard with company name and hours of business for the people to know while I'm gone .
Want to take the order Jerry !
