Re: Say what?
Dave M sorry to jest when you are being serious, I think we should ask Brent a little more about the award as I honestly have not got a clue. He did tell me that when the final vote went off at the MTE he was not there and only found out later I had got it.
I have to speak Kevin Halewood at Sun King Publishing tomorrow so may know some more.

Re: Say what?
Thank you for your honest answer. However, that brings me back to my original post, sort of. Why were you using the award as a marketing tool if you know not what the award was for? I don't mean to be harping on this, I just don't understand your logic. I have no idea who Kevin Halewood or Sun king Publishing are or the connection to this post.

Re: Say what?
The award I think is for services to our industry but I could be wrong Brent will tell us tomorrow.
I am sorry you have not heard of Kevin Halewood as he is the main man behind the Mobile Tech Expo which is a very important show for guys in our business.
Good marketing is about making the most of what you have available and letting your customer know. First and foremost we are in a sales oriented business. When you ask for permission to do a job or the second job you are in effect selling.
If you look back a bit at the posts you were asked in your opinion who on this forum you thought deserved your vote. It then I beleive went on to a further level. All I know is I have the award and I am going to use it to my best advantage.
As for the way I put it on the other forum it was meant completley as a tongue in cheek way of getting the message across. Sometimes our humour comes across differento to that which you are used to.

Re: Say what?
Sun King Publishing puts out two publications to the mobile technician industry, the Mobile Tech News and Detailer's Digest. Both are good publications that reach many in the industry both in the USA and on the other side of the pond. They have been promoting "person of the year" awards to a number of different segments of the industry for several years. Don't quote me on this but I believe that in addition to windshield repair awards are given for detailing, PDR, and other segments of the industry.
Frankly I do not know how many people vote, but nomination forms are included in the two publications for months in advance of the annual Mobile Tech Expo where the awards are passed out.
After the MTE last year I decided to put up a post on this forum asking for all forum members to vote for the person they thought most deserved the MT windshield repair person of the year award. Not as many people responded as I had hoped, but the clear winner here on the forum was screenman, so I sent in a nomination for screenman to Sun King Publishing, noting the fact that he has been very active on the windshield repair forum, and that in a poll on the windshield repair forum he was selected above all others by his peers.
I also sent out nomination forms to many of our customers so they could nominate the technician of their choice for windshield repair person of the year, but I have no way to know how many of those were submitted, who else was nominated, or how many votes were tallied for each nominee. I missed the award ceremony at the MTE, but later found out that screenman had won the award, and offered my congratulations.
I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Less than a dozen judges chose the winners at the Windshield Repair Olympics, does that make it any less an achievement? Whether it was 1000, 100, or even 10 people that voted screenman the Mobile Tech Windshield Repair Person of the Year, he received more votes than anyone else and that is all that matters.
The Mobile Tech Expo is a small but very focused trade show, and I would recommend it to anyone in the mobile auto repair industry. The Mobile Tech News and the Detailer's Digest are also very good publications for any of you looking to add additional services to your windshield repair business. Kevin Halewood does a tremendous job with the publications and the MTE.
Why would anyone not promote the fact that they were recognized with an award from their peers? I know I would.
Now as for posting on other forums, HOW DARE YOU SCREENMAN!
Just kidding.

Re: Say what?
Brent,
Thanks for your reply. I just re-read the previous posts and do not see where anyone had a problem with promoting the fact of being recognized with an award. I think the question was the manner in which that was approached. Later in the posts it seemed unclear as to what the award was actually for. Screenman seemed to have a good idea (as do the rest of us) but you have clarified that question.

Re: Say what?
Lets not all question our votes for screenman just yet. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt. Personally I feel, sometimes it is not what you do but rather how you do it that shows your true character. Remember he is from across the pond and they have a unique flare about them.
Curious...If someone who is given this award and is found to have intentions that are deemed not to be honorable, if the title would be stripped like the Miss America pagent.

Re: Say what?
Certainly not were you maybe thinking. I feel it is a fair question in general and not focused on anyone. I thought the tone of this thread created a segway to ask this question.
