Pro's and Con's

Post by hidsolutions »

Hello every one, Im new here but Ive been reading over the H/L resto board and I personally have had a great sucess taking headlights down with 400 wet to get rid of pits, working my way to 600 wet and using a urathane based clear.( PPG Deltron) I have not had any complaints nor have had any complaints of yellowing headlights.

Asking an educated question, Why isnt this method more common practice?

I think the main reason is you have to be set up to spray a coating like PPG clear. Most of us are windshield repair techs. and we do have have air compressors and spray equipment on our trucks. With the system like Delta sells you can do the same job without any of the expensive spray equipment.

If you spray you get overspray wipe it on and you dont also the automotive clear has 3 problems it is more expensive and takes longer to dry and prone to pealing with extreme weather changes

The easy way I have personally solved most of the issues are, I use a Jeep Cherokee which has a large support for an engine driven compressers mainly used for inflating tires on the trails, I have it plumbed with a few coalesing filters and I use a spray gun, thrift store sheets and blankets work wonders for fighting overspray and I can use a variety of air tools, since the system is 12 gallons pressurized to 160psi.
The Clear I use is PPG Deltron, dries tacky in 5 min, cures in 45 min.

I tried it 3 years ago, and the lights on my personal cars still look as good as the day I did them and they sit in the texas sun on a daily basis.

I'm sorry, I had no idea you were saving stranded motorists with your system. Keep up the good work!
