I'll send you the contact information tomorrow. If someone is willing to give you training and pay you a flat rate that may not be a bad way to get started, although in my experience those offers sometimes send you out somewhat unprepared, and set some pretty unrealistic expectations for how many replacements you should be able to do in a day. While waiting at his office for the owner of a replacement company to show up for a meeting a while back I had the opportunity to talk to one of his mobile technicians. He had been working there for a week with no prior experience and was already expected to replace 5 windshields a day including a considerable amount of drive time. The set of tools he was issued amounted to a couple of screw drivers, a cold knife, a caulking gun, and very little else. I was shocked to say the least. While I admired the technicians tenacity I would not have wanted him to replace my windshield.

I'm not saying that the company who made you the offer would be like that. It may in fact be a fantastic opportunity for you. Just do some homework so you know what you are getting yourself into.

Thrown to the wolves is just what I have con'd. Thanks for the advice. If I choose to do this I'd make sure there's a way out without commitment. But then again I've called to inquire twice and haven't gotten a return call. Go figure. I do want to focus on wsr mostly right now until I master it

I attended the Auto Glass Institute offered through the NGA in Austin, TX last year. In my opinion it was a great starting point. You really have to learn all the mistakes that can be made and how they can end up killing someone. I personally see glass replacement companies that tell customers that they can drive away immediately after install. There is no such thing as instant urethane. This is just one example of a dangerous mistake that's made daily. Like stated in an earlier response, the windshield is part of the safety system of the vehicle. It is designed to do many things in the event of an accident. Just by scratching the pinchweld and not correcting that issue, could cause failure down the road from rust. Glass replacement can be learned correctly and should be taken as serious as working on other safety systems. You need to learn what should and should not be done during a replacement. People's lives depend on it. The scary thing is, you may get trained at a company that is not doing things correctly, but without knowing the correct way then how would you know? Most customers call you for the cheapest price installed. They think the windshield is just cut out and glued back in. Educate yourself first, then you can educate the customer, then do it correctly or don't do it at all. There are some fine training avenues out there, you just need to do some research. I wish you well.
