Heating compared to cooling the windshield
Heating compared to cooling the windshield
I started changing my strategy from using a bic lighter to heat up the glass when the resin is starting it's injection, now I'm cooling the glass down with asetone and a paper towel. Of course I'm here in Tampa Fl were it's hot 4 months out of the year. I have had some luck with it especialy with cracks. Does anyone have any sugestions or ideas on the subject of cooling the windshield.

Didn't I see on a post that someone recommended using a piece of aluminum as a heat sink? I don't know personally how well that would work, but you might try searching "heat sink" on the forum search bar...

Aluminum works very well to draw heat from the area which it covers, so it works great to reduce cooling time when the glass is heated to remove moisture, but you would have to use a very large block of aluminum to cool an entire windshield, or even an area large enough to keep the repair area cool for any length of time in the Tampa summertime.

I would not subscribe to the use of acetone as a coolant! It's flammable range is much greater than gasoline...the possibility of a flash fire is very likely.

I'm with you Curt. I use the air conditioner and shade the windshield and so far have never had a problem cracking the glass even though I run the air through the defroster vents. I also would not use Acetone for cooling the glass.
