what is in your kit?

Post by stihlcarven »

There are obviously many different aproaches and methods in use to restore headlights. I'm just asking what people use to maybe share some ideas and possibly find better ways to get a superior effect. My kit is simple and quite honostly relatively untested. I am just starting headlight restoration and have built my own kit. It is as follows:
1)right angle 3/8's reversable drill 0=1500 rpms
2)3" hook and loop attachment
3)p500,p800, and p3000 sanding discs
4)heavy cut polish
5)low to no grit plastic polish
6)3" foam polish pads
7)car wash detergent
8)spray bottles w/water
9)filter masks
10)blue low adhesive tape
11)gloves
12)9x12 plastic drop cloth to protect car from splatter
13)2000 grit hand sand wet dry paper for tight areas a 3" pad wont reach
14)shammy cloth and shop rags
15)aerosal glass cleaner
16)portable water container 10 gallon
17)I carry it all in an open style tool caddy
So thats my HR kit.....whats in yours?

I'm sorry if we have made you feel unwelcome or paranoid about posting your opinion. There is nothing weird about your post, and I don't see it as overly controversial unless another forum member turns it into a topic all about making his/her own compounds or recommending products to others that are clearly not intended for the purpose at hand. For instance, if someone recommends a varnish that is not recommend for use on polycarbonate by the mfg I will point that out and ask that we not steer new technicians in that direction. I can't stop people from using something like that, but I don't think it is good for the professional reputation of our industry. Sometimes people forget consumers visit this site as well. That's probably what t4k is referring to.

Contrary to popular believe we don't edit or delete posts just because you have a different opinion or happen to prefer a different set of tools than we do. We do however state our opinion, correct those who are using Delta Kits products incorrectly, and try to protect the consumer (vehicle owner) by not allowing too many recommendations for products that are not made for professional use in our industry.

???? What does the heavy cut polish & Low cut polish consist of? I noticed you have sand paper in your kit also. I've wondered about other things to use when working near the fender area & can't get the metabo close enough. I've used my green pads and they work well sometimes. The disc are ok when folded along the edges, but sometimes are hard to grip with my hands. I wipe down completely between each disc size. I enjoy doing HLR. Most lights I tape off while others I can do without any taping. Any suggestions are helpful. I am amazed at what I see on youtube and what some people do.

Brent is right, only use products that are specifically formulated for the purpose at hand. You cannot go wrong with the products and services provided by Delta Kits.

I am skeptic of some of the claims or telmarket calls I get or see on the internet. I dont have the money or deep pockets to search for or make the perfect resin or create a top notch HLR or WSR kit. Trust is what Deltakits offeres to me. I trust Brent and his staff. What he sells to me is the best possible that has been tried and tested. I dont know this to be 100%, but I am convienced based on the quality of my repairs that he has selected what he believes is the best. I know when I make that phone call to purchase products or for guidance, I will recieve nothing but top quality products with expert advice from someone that works in the field and knows what I am faced with to get the job done professionally. As a new HLR & WSR technician, honest information I recieve from people like Frank EU, SGT and new ones like Roo and Time2shine all make my learning curve better and quicker. I apply their knowledge and experience to my work habits and make adjustments as needed. I feel like Iam part of a team instead of just another independent technician struggling to learn a new trade by trial & error. Just a thought on a cold, snowy Sunday afternoon.

I use both the delta kits hlr system and their wsr kit. I couldn't be happier. The results I achieve make me and my customers smile everyday! I would suggest getting something tried and true and not try to cheap out on your kits regardless of your preferred manufacturer.
