Questions...

Post by DavidS »

I am sorta winging my way into this business...

I have a few questions...

When you file your claim with the insurance companies to perform the repair.
Do they send you a 1099 at the end of the year of the payments they have
made to you? how does this work?

I think i pretty much know what rock hits pays between $50-60
how much do insurance compaines pay for cracks? What is their
size limit, and what is their normal pay on a crack repair?

Thanks

They will pay rock chip price for long crack repair. Customer pays the difference.

I'm in California. I'm not sure how things work elsewhere, however here, when you accept a claim from an insurance company, you agree to do the repair for the amount the insurance company pays you. The agreement between technicians and insurance company specifically states that you are not permitted to charge the customer any additional amount for the repair over the amount the insurance company is paying. It goes on to say that if you are reported for doing so, your agreement is immediately void and you are terminated as one of their referred technicians. Unfortunately, the insurance companies do not make distinctions between rock chips and cracks when it comes to payments.

I talked to the people who I buy my stuff from and they explained that I need to send a letter to Lynx and Safelite that I can do repair up to 24 inches. Although I will only go to 12. When I sent Lynx the letter telling them about how I do my long cracks and that I charge more than chip repairs they said that is fine. This was over telephone b/c a lady called me back after they received a letter and I also sent an email. She said that they will only pay the 50.00, but if I'm doing long crack repair I am able to charge extra for the repair and customer pay the difference. She explained to me that for chips I cannot do that. When I do long crack repair, the customer tells them what they have over the phone and I explain everytime that I'm gonna charge the customer the difference. There has never been an issue with it. I did this for years with my step dad with Safelite also and there was no problem. He still does it. I've only owned my own business since February so I'm not under Safelite since I have to wait a year. I will ask him again about that with Safelite, but I remember when I was training with him, he had me mention that we were charging the difference everytime when I'm on phone with them. So far no problem.
