Just quit my job and I\'m going for it
Just quit my job and I'm going for it
Just quit my job today. I've been doing a couple fleet accounts on the side since May. I've made the big jump and going full time. Does anyone have any advice for Winter Repairing. Should I concintrate on Auto Dealerships or go retail. I live in NW Indiana about 20 miles from Chicago. I'm thinking about dealerships because I could work on the chips inside away from the cold and moisture. Any Ideas or suggestions would be great. I'm a little nervous on making this bold move.

Good Luck Joe. When I quit my previous job and started doing wsr it was the scariest thing I ever did. Now it's the best thing I ever did. I stick mostly to fleet accounts. But then I've had some time to establish enoug fleet work to keep me busy. In your case I would split my time between fleet and retail. Spend your mornings getting and servicing fleet accounts. Spend your afternoons going after retail work.

Re: Just quit my job and I'm going for it
I was just layed-off from an $80k-a-year job. Now I'm going to try to replace it with wsr. I know I've got my work cut out for me & as a sales professional I am also looking other places to replace my former income. Unfortunately, I was not smart enough to save any money (it's too easy to spend). However, I would like to thank everyone who posts in this forum for all of the great info (I've been reading for the last two weeks). I'm jumping in & going with Delta, which appears to be the best system based on all my research. I only need to clear $1,000 a week (after expenses)to squeek by. I'm sure it will be a challange, especially as I try to keep my 9 m.p.g. gas-guzzler filled. I am an optomist & failure is not an option.... I guess I just need to pound the pavement & find some business.

I went to the April class in Eugene. Thank you Matt, Jeff and everyone. Learned quite a bit. I've been playing around with 2 accounts part time after work. Just got tired of the 120 mile round tripto work everyday in Chicago traffic. I'm hoping to make 600 /week. I hoping to get about 4-5 repairs a day. Just wondering how others did starting out the 1st week or month.

Cold call sales is the easiest way to make some instant progress towards your goal. Roam your area for cars with chips start with the little buildings where it will be easier to find who owns the car. It is all important that you appear professional and confident, Practice your sales techniques it is easy to sell the free chip repair with a little practice.
Plan your work and Work your plan! 5 cars a day will bring $250 do this 5 days a week and your making some serios money without working very hard. Personaly im not working till 10 am and am done by 3pm once you are able to make the sales call without fear it becomes pretty easy
Good luck

Get out there and "COISTER" !!! The success of those who offer advice here should be good incentive for you to go and do likewise. I used to be afraid of 'sales', but you know what I found out? Most people just want to be asked. So go for it.

Also remember ours is a service most people realize they need but just havnt found the time to spend an hour at some glass shop. My cold call customers often remark how easy it is me showing up and doing it right there most intended to get it fixxed but just had put it off.
My point is outside sales is a lot easier if you are selling something they need and making thier life easier in the process.

I quit my job in January of '04 and first week out did $1000 gross. Going and and looking for work DOES work. It is just a matter of how many hours it takes to get what you want. $80,000 annual is going to be a tough challenge though working solo. Done as a family business with more than 1 person towing the line I think this could be done without much trouble.
