Last week I went out to a customers house to fix a "crack". When I got to the house I was led over to a late model Buick LeSabre by a man in his seventies. I looked at the windshield and there was something stuck on it. With the customer looking over my shoulder, I took my razor blade and scraped off a glob of bird crap. Needless to say he was very embarrassed. I said, "No problem, it happens... now pay me. He did. Easiest repair yet!

Charging a 70 year old to scrape poo off a windshield...It would never have crossed my mind..
Did you look the the hidden camera?

Next time you might consider not charging and the ramifications of doing good will over the scrape and charge method.

A 70 year old knows many people that could be potential clients (heck he's been around a long time) What story will he tell about you? and his experience?

The story goes if you do a GREAT job and help someone they will tell 3 people. If you do a poor job or screw someone they will tell 10

I have a nice tree in my yard with a long rope on it, if that was my grandpa you would be swinging from it. If you are that cheap you should have charged 5-10 bucks for the trip, I would have just walked away and felt good about myself and the image of my business.

There are many ways to run a windshield repair business.

Charging someone for your time to come out to your site is completely fair in my opinion. If you call your cable company to install cable, then tell the technician nevermind, they will charge you for a service call every time. Again, there's nothing wrong with being paid for your loss of time.

There's also nothing wrong with deciding that it's worth it to not charge, that you feel your company image will decrease by charging for the trip.

Again, each way is perfectly acceptable. What is NOT acceptable is jumping on fellow board members cases for how they run their business. This is less in response to what is currently here, and more towards a few deleted posts.

Let's keep it civil and respectful guys.
