I think that maybe they were alerted by two at the time officers(one of them the president) of the IGA. Both of whom owned glass shops in the state of Connecticut at the time and both of whom were appointed to the committee that made suggestions as to what the licensing restrictions should be.

Anyone who is not familiar with the particulars on this and is interested should do a search on this forum for Connecticut. I'm sure there is a good hour or two worth of reading on this subject posted here. After that do a search for IGA or spalling and you will start to get a look at the big picture. Interestingly enough Safelite stepped up to the plate and may have kept things from being worse in CT than they are by meeting with the Director of consumer protection.

Thanks for Responding Jeff H & Mafsu,
Some of the details you brought out about licensing, I was unaware of. No stone chip repair in the drivers wiper sweep is nuts. And the two year training thing is too.
Don't you think though that some of the details are like a laundry basket full of dry clothes, where the wrinkles need to be ironed out?
Here's another thought. Most of you WSR techs here, on/in this forum are
the masters of the industry. Why on earth would we have to follow anyone around. Many of us here are the guys who invented and/or pushed the whole concept of WSR, and brought it up to the speed it has become. Perhaps we would be the ones called on to become teachers to anyone who'd be interested in WSR in the future. After all, we could be "grandfathered" in.
Again clothes/details that need to be ironed out.
My opinion

It appears you didn't go back and read the prior posts. The Director of consumer safety in CT wasn't truly interested in hearing what anyone in this industry had to say. This committee was made up primarily of the aforementioned ex IGA officeholders and private citizens who as it turned out after a few meetings had no idea what wsr was. Only after the NWRA became involved were these folks given demonstrations of wsr. I recall reading that several were surprised at what was done in the demonstrations. This was and is not anironing out issue, The director and his deputy director both failed to attend meetings with the wsr members of the committee while still demanding a recommendation from the committee.
Most likely I would be grandfathered in you are correct. That doesn't make it right. In fact the idiots who are out there now doing crap repairs will be grandfathered in as well. Nor do I want to give the government another penny of the money I go out and bust my tail for. This is simply another attempt for the government to step in and get in your pockets in the name of protecting consumers.
You cannot protect people from themselves. One of the difficulties of living in a free market society. Stupid people do stupid things. An uninformed consumer will buy inferior products and services.
All this not to mention the inherent corruption in the original naming of members to this committee.

If one looks closely at the players involved, and the proposed committee member recommendations after reading the above threads that Jeff has posted..... It becomes apparent that MAYBE the original intent for licensing was to completely abolish windshield repair in the state of CT.
After making the perfect politcal model of consumer protectionism in CT, this replacement agenda could be pursued in the same manner in other states. I repeat, COMPLETELY ABOLISH WINDSHIELD REPAIR. Thats how I understand it, maybe I'm missing something........ Bob

All of this licensing proposals sounds a lot like prohibitionists of times gone by.
The goals of these people seems to be complete control of the windshield glass arena!

In all honesty I did not take the time to read the links/threads Jeff H posted. I intend on doing just that. Don't anyone leave. I'll be back......

It appears that the state of Connecticutt is relating the art of windshield repair to that of nuclear power generation.
As someone said, take a peek at those that participated in drafting the requirements.... windshield replacement "gurus". They are putting the "kiss of death" on the competition and raping the motoring public with unnecessary beauruacratic constraints.
Maybe a class action lawsuit would be a good way to handle this. Could we, at some point, form a professional group to pilot this undertaking? Each of us could set aside $1 from our repair efforts to fund this endeavor.
Your thoughts anyone?
