Something not mentioned is be super careful on hot windshields. getting them in a garage or a shade is a must. In my climate, if it's to hot to hold the edge of your hand on it, BEWARE!!
Long cracks, make a mark perferably with a china marker on the outside, then go on the inside, do a very gentle flex close to the end of the crack and see if it is hiding a futher length. Then make a small mark about 1/8" from the very tip of the crack and make your entry hole on the outside. Then follow the long crack procdures.
If you try this on a hot windshield or in the direct sun, you'll be chasing that crack for a long time and have a very irate customer.
