I also like flexing. Flexing work's to get air out while on the vac. cycle too, which help's resin to the far end of stubborn legs.

If the legs of a star are still visable from all angles it's not filled, if you can see it only from one angle but when you move it disapears, it's filled and you are seeing a reflection of the resin. If this is a constant(ghosting of the legs) with your stars try different resins(get samples from different mfgr's and experiment, find which is best for you). You would be surprised the difference a resin can make.

As for flexing, as mentioned above I flex as close to the injector as possible. I would sugest going to a scrap yard and practicing, better to crack out there than on your customers $50000 pick-up.

When flexing, have you always flexed from the inside of the vehicle or the outside of the vehicle. I can see where flexing from the inside of the vehicle pushes the crack open, but does flexing from the outside of the vehicle give different results?

I always flex on the outside of the vehicle.

Try putting the point of your awl on the begining of the leg and drag back to the end a couple times while appying pressure sometimes this will work and you dont need such a big flex giving you a better shot at not spreading it

I always flex from the outside, that way with the mirror on the inside I can see more detail as to what is going on.

One thing I've not seen mentioned on this thread, when flexing on a warm windshield use extreme caution, it is easier to crack the glass. Never flex on a hot glass.

Boy, It would have been good to know. I have been tring to get as much information as I can from the forum, and practicing, but flexing warm glass got me. I did not heat it, it was a 90 degree day here in AZ and I flexed a leg of a star and it cracked about 5". The star was right above the windshield wipers and I have been told that area is difficult in itself. Learning experiance, I'm new to WSR and getting the hang of it before I go out and charge for services.

Jeff2, you can still flex in the heat. You just have to be more careful. Get your head down next to the glass so that you can see the leg when it opens. Most of the time it doesn't take much pressure. I flex the legs on stars year round here and we get 100 degree heat here in the summer. It just takes practice and patience. Another good tip is to leave the injector in place for at least two to three minutes after you have gotten resin to the end of the legs. For some reason this will make your repairs look better than if you pull it off as soon as the legs are filled.

Flexing a.k.a probe filling. We do it alot.
