I pretty much follow the resin suppliers advice as to what cures their resin best. So far I haven't found one resin supplier that has stated natural UV performs better than using a quality UV lamp on every repair (which I always do!) They're the ones that actually do some extensive testing in this area. But hey....if your comfortable with your results who am I to argue this stuff? I currently use a dual tube 10 watt light purchased from Delta and have to admit it works better and more efficient than the big yellow one;) For those of you out there that believe once the pits cured your whole repair is cured......good luck with that analogy!

One of the manufacturers of a quick-curing lamp says on their website that natural sunlight doesn't cure resin properly. How can this be, since U.V. light is the catalyst for the resin, what's a better source of U.V. than the sun?

They want to sell you a lamp. Resin cures at 360-370Nm, the sun provide more than enough on a sunny day with little cloud cover. The lamp is better than the sun in the early morning and late afternoon, but at high noon, in June without a cloud in the sky the sun is much faster and cheaper. One thing to remind you of though is that with the flourecent fixtures we use, the UV light emited degrades with time, your bulbs should be repalced long before they die(about every 500 uses), a fresh bulb will be faster than a bulb that has some experiance.

I use the Glas-Weld light and it is my favorite piece of equipment. I consider it a must have! The price is a little high though, along with everything else they sell.

Because they sell UV lights and the big yellow one is free. Iwas born at night but it wasnt last night

Jeff, a question on your earlier post. I don't dispute your statement that a windshield blocks more than 50% of UV. If it didn't you would still see cracked dashes in cars. Is it the glass or the tinted inner layer that blocks the UV?

I have nothing to back this up but I think the glass is slightly tinted and the plastic is also tinted ... but I could be wrong.

Yeah I have nothing to back it up either, I have always been told the glass was clear and the inner layer was tinted.
