Both repairs were done in fair weather, the chip was repaired in oct.-it's been a very mild fall and winter,I remember it being very nice-repaired it in my driveway, probably 60-70 degrees outside.
The crack was repaired, again, in my driveway(maybe this is the problem, lol) both were in front of my shop,so there was access to indoors if required. The temp out side on the crack repair was lower 50's.
I've never heard of curing the repair "under pressure"-Delta never said nuttin' bout that.
wsr is an add on for me,so I'm usually doing door dings while curing so I'm used to letting the light cure for at least 5 min. or more.
Do I need to look into buying a thicker resin for cracks? then how well will it flow? Slower I would think.

The system I am buying(Chip Doctors Franchise) uses 3 resins for cracks(9 resins total). One is fairly thin, the 2 others are thick. The francisor sais that the thin resin is only used in extreeme cases. As for curing under pressure, my current system(DK) says not to do so, the Chip Doctors injector(dry vac, capsule resin delivery) says to always cure under pressure. From what I have seen so far the under pressure curing provides a better repair(could be the system as well).

I use the DK system so I dont cure under pressure, but I am curious about how other systems cure under pressure.
How do you get the cure light close enough to the chip when the chip is covered by the injector? Does the resin directly under the injector seal cure too? If so; does some of resin inside the injector cure too?
Just wondering.

Most of the time the uv light will get under the injector but the final touch is when you fill the pit, thats putting the uv light directly over the finshed work.
In case of doubt, use a mirror and reflect the sunlight directly on the repair area. Works every time and speeds things up.

Jerry,

I assume you do not mean by putting the mirror inside the car it will direct the UV back out and cure the resin. Firstly the PVB will not allow the UV back through, secondly the resin in the injector would set solid if it did. Mind you there are still plenty of companies training this method. When was the last time someone got sunburnt driving a car.

I turned down an 8" crack yesterday cos it was in zone a and the sales manager was the kind of guy who would tell me to do it and demand the money back if it fails MOT or reappears even though I told him I wasn't sure!

Could just be my newbieness to the trade but at this stage I'd rather get a name for being cautious instead of being reckless and rough!

I think if it was for one of my better customers I would have just done it, cos they know the score and don't expect you to work for nothing.

Garvey,

I would not have done that one. I stick to about 4 inches on car screens unless they are nice and clean and dry. On coaches and trucks almost anything goes.

I second Jerry on this one except for the usage fo the mirror to reflect sunlight of which i totally agree with screenman. There have been situations where a repaired area is kind of in the dark and needs some kind of lighting for me to see the repair in action during the vac and pressure porcess. It is during this times that i use my uv light. Never have i had any kind of premature problems. I don't use mirrors to aid in the process of my repairs.

I agree with screenman.I have left injectors on problem repairs for extended periods of time while preforming other repairs while waiting on a problem leg ect to fill with a thick towel over the bridge but with a mirror for monitoring the progress and all the time reflecting light back through the w/shield.NO CURING PROBLEMS............................

When the break is filled, I mount the UV lamp inside the windshield. No, the resin inside the injector does not cure. Even after curing for 5 minutes, when I remove the injector the excess resin runs out.
