Windshield Repair Forum

I hate to say it because it is definitely negative. The glass replacement shops that due repairs stink, period. Glass repair is an art form and to be good you need to do it all the time. Ed's Auto Glass does the replacement for Ryder truck rental in northeast Philly, the supervisor Steve Sours told them flat out they stink at repairs and that's why I get the business. The guys (glass replacement shops) who were forced to buy kits years ago by the insurance industry just lack the experience to good repairs. Now of course I'm sure this will draw the ire of the glass replacement guys but when it comes down to it, I'll go head to head with anybody on repairing a windshield much less some glass replacement guy who only fixes windows when they have to. I'm curious as to what others think about this.

PS: I have never set up with Metry Brent but will do so and will also call the others as you have suggested. My mainstay will always be fleets, this is just another area where I'm losing some extra money, I say extra money because I've done a total of 6 insurance jobs in 18 1/2 years so if I receive 2 jobs per week on average that's a win for me.

Your so right about SGC! The only time they throw me a bone is when they don't want to chew on it! (like jobs being requested 40-50 miles from my location which is a "A" service area on a saturday @ 2pm)

If your in B,C or D markets you'll have a much better chance of referrals from them because it's not profitable enough for them to service. If your in a "A" location don't expect much or anything.

As a independant all I ask for "is a fair playing field", which I haven't seen since the inception of Harmon Glass being allowed to become a TPA service provider some 8- 10 years ago.


Read the recent news from Michigan. Hope this insurance legislation passes.

When I first got into this business I signed up with A.C.T. for all insurance jobs. A month later I signed up with LYNX, including Allstate and State Farm. When I called in my first State Farm job to LYNX all seemed to go OK. I got my dispatch/referral nbr. However, instead of getting paid directly by State Farm I got paid through A.C.T., who, of course, deducted their fee. I called State Farm and was told that I had to choose between working through A.C.T. or State Farm directly because State Farm's system could hold only one business & FAX number. So I had them delete A.C.T.'s numbers and add mine. Since then no problem. AND, I don't use A.C.T. for any State Farm, Allstate or other LYNX jobs. (Actually, I don't use A.C.T. at all.)

Just thought I'd mention it. One or the other.
