Re: Repair and the economy
I hope the Feds give some of the bail out money to Detroit and the big 3 US Automakers. They were quick to help AIG and other financial institutions in the mortgage business, why not the auto industry. Besides Michigan, California and some of other traffic heavy states rely on the automobile manufacturing for thousands , possibly millions of jobs. Not to mention the jobs created that are connected to the auto industry. Of course there would need to be a way to make sure the bail out is not used inappropriately so it will help keep the economy somewhat stable and not wasted on executive bonuses and such. A healthy and stable U.S. Auto Industry can help not only WSR business but all of the US economy.

I suppose some of you watched ABC news this morning. It was interesting that the CEO of GM chose to fly one of the corporate jets to DC to plea for money. Not a good move to convince the taxpayer that they are managing corporate expenses well when they claim that they are near bankruptcy!

Re: Repair and the economy
Sorry....But...........
I know the motor industry is hurting and the temptation is to agree to pump dosh into the big companys ........But I don’t have any sympathy for the ££££$$$$ wasters some folk have..let them rot!..they have been a part of the problem so called “bailing them out” usually means another big fat bonus!!..to get rid of one particular individual who had a ridiculous salary/contract in the first place.....which in a REAL world sence would have been unsustainable anyway!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry
Rant over!

Our service is expanding in this slowing economy. Why? Number 1: We choose not to participate in the recession. 2: We have chosen a proven system to get and retain customers. 3: We are upgrading our services and professionalism. 4: Seek new Markets for our service.
A few of our whales are drowning, yes. so that tells us that we have to be more diligent in procuring new Business. What does your sales pipeline look like? How many different Markets can you see for our niche? Where are the people with the money that will not flinch at using our service? How many prospecting calls are you making a day? Do you have a script, that guides to the fleet sale. What do you do when someone says no? We have a database of over 8K satisfied customers. We know by stats that 1/3 will have a rock chip in any given month. Are you looking for repeat business?
Our Business is to clear up the indifference in the customer's mind. Most consumers don't care who does their repair. They only care about price, quality, and do you take my insurance? We have to put in measures that will help dissolve that indifference. ---And most of all, be THERE when they are ready to buy.
We will be starting a thread soon with sales tips and setting up your system to make this business work for you. Have a great Delta Day!

Excellent point ChipStop. We are nearing our 25th year in in the windshield repair industry and have managed to grow every single year regardless of the economy. We are in an industry that should be taking advantage of the suffering economy. People should be more apt to repair than replace in tough times, but it is our job as windshield repair professionals to educate our customers on the potential cost of not having their windshields repaired. Individuals and fleet managers alike will sometimes put off having their windshield repaired because they "can't afford" it, but the reality is that in the long term they will spend more on replacement cost if they don't have the repairs done on the short term. Sometimes they need to be reminded of that fact.
Another thing that happens in an economy like this is that those who have survived on the low hanging fruit will turn tail and run, leaving more market share for those like you who understand that you have to roll with the punches. Just because the phone quits ringing doesn't mean you have to close your doors, it just means that you have to start knocking on some new doors. Repeat business is the surest way to long term success, so make sure the quality of your repairs are excellent and your customer service is exceptional.
I'm very pleased to hear that you "choose" not to participate in the recession. I share that attitude and so far it has served me very well. Yes the economy sucks, but some will not find a way to thrive in any economy and I plan to be one of those that does exactly that. I look forward to your sales tips and appreciate your willingness to share with your fellow forum members.
