There is a market for everything if you do your homework Ben is right
I have been thinking about the last time I was in Cabo lots of really poor people but big dealerships for high line cars Im sure it must be the same way in the DR I know my friend does ok doing PDR on the rental fleets and high line cars he tells me that there are people who service the rental fleet doing replacements for $50-$75 which makes sense they do replacements here in fresno at dealerships for $100-$125
I know the everyday replacement is pretty cheap there but if there are a bunch of high line customers that would be a different market and if you are aready going there it wouldnt hurt to try a kit is around $1000 certainly worth a shot

Hey GlassStarz, please, I need a favor. As I am trying to do my homework it is very important I know exactly what your friend is talking about. Is the $50 to $75 for labor alone and the windshields are being supplied by the dealerships? That would make sense. However, if those figures include the cost of the windshield too, then that sounds impossible. I could be very wrong, but, you must understand how the Dominican Republic operates.

When you import a product there, you must first pay a 17% tax for the retail value of the product and they determine what that value is. Then, the customs service there will assign a tariff value to the product. And once again this value is determined by them. I am not sure about windshields, but, there is a third agency that can tax the product further. Just as an example, televisions, after all taxes and tariffs have been imposed, the cost increase is about 50%. A T.V. determined to be worth $1000.00 will cost you almost $500.00 in taxes and tariffs. You say replacement in your neck of the woods is in the $100 to $125? Then trust me, the cost in the DR is going to be more.

There is one way a product can be tax and tariff free. You must retain a lawyer there and have him submit your business to receive "free trade zone" status. If you are lucky enough to get it, then importation of products necessary for you to operate your business become tax free for 10 years. Including income tax! However, this status is reserved to industrial and manufacturing business, or non-traditional communications business that employ many people (call centers).

If there are businesses there that are doing replacements for $50 to $75 including the cost of the windshield, I need to know this. It will drasticly change my plans. I would consider it a favor if you could ask your friend for specifics. Thanks in advance.

Oh, by the way, you are 100% correct. There are monster high end dealerships there. Mercedes, Audi, Land Rover, Porche and the list goes on.

Im sure they are using the chinese glass and with the average guy earning $20 a day you can se how it goes just like everyone else there are a lot of people there and thus a lot of cars im sure there are several wholesale suppliers for replacement guys
Ask the rental guys what they pay if you paid 250 retail thats a lot less than here and I think you will find the wholesale replacement guys are pretty cheap the car lots here have several guys who do replacements for $100. The high line guys you have to order glass for some of them even here so im sure its even harder to get there result they will be very expensive and repair will be attractive to them
