We could find not difference in tests between using the cork or using your finger, until and this is the good bit, the trainee dropped the cork on the shop floor and next time he polished with it the glass was scratched from a piece of grit that got stuck to the cork. You could only just feel the grit and certainly not see it. So the moral of the story is, do not drop the cork and keep it super clean.

I use the cardboard protector that the razor blades are wrapped in with Esprit pifill polish, works well.

Keep the cork in the bottle until your ready to polish. That way it won't get any dirt on it and you will always know where it is.

I have had good experiences with Q-tips as well with my finger. I also always shake my bottle to ensure there is no separation as well.

I heard that a stiff piece of leather works well.

I like the felt wheel, and it's only messy if you use too much polish or if you are starting it spinning before placing it on the glass.

I put a drop (or less) on the wheel, manually put it to the glass and then start the drill. I like it this way. If drill is too far out of reach, finger is used.

Bear in mind though, I do most of my repairs at trade shows.

Try this - Get a small jar with a big lid at a drug store - squeeze out about a dozen drops of pit polish onto the lid and set it someplace warm to dry. Next repair - pick up one or two of the little 'mud pies' with the tip of a finger and polish your repair. Scrape any extra back into the jar.
I'm in my 20th year in business and on my second bottle of polish.
