Yes, you have to be careful when using Alcohol, but for those that don't have a moisture evaporator or steel quad, this is a low cost effective way of removing anything from the surface of the windshield.
With that said, that doesn't mean you take the alcohol and spray the entire damaged area, use it with caution only!
I have it handy because I live in a state that has several months of 100+ degree weather, and it cleans & cools in a matter of minutes!
Again, this is what "I" do, which doesn't mean you need to do it. Since I have been using alcohol, I have NEVER caused further damage to the windshield, but again, I was careful when using it.
