Getting Started
Hey Ca$h, here's how to start....
Go with the SPECIFIC "Windshield Repair Marketing" Books and Manuals.
These are written by those who have incorporated the "traditional" marketing strategies into how to market themselves as windshield repair businesses.
Why reinvent the wheel?
Find out WHO has been REAL success at windshield repair and buy their books.......DO WHAT THEY DO!
Anthony Robbins said it best, "If you want to be successful, find others who have become success and do what they do - its called, Mirror and Matching" (see his book - Unlimited Power).
Some of these "windshield repair marketing books" have info on how to bill the insurance companies and NOT be turned away just because you are new to the business.
Make a small investment into these resources for BIG returns. Use what others have already figured out and you will save yourself months of struggle and frustration and more importantly, you'll make more money, sooner!
It is against forum policies to recommend certain specific books but if you go to Google and do a search for: "Windshield Repair Business Marketing Books", you will see several killer articles, books etc!!!
Good Luck and KEEP US POSTED!............. We ALL started at the beginning!
Happy Chippin
PS IMHO, do NOT put your card on people's cars in any parking lot......! there are better ways and you won't have to worry about some knucklehead claiming you caused the damage!

Good question!
Re: Getting Started
That is a good question.....
There are a lot of great written articles, blogs, forum posts, reports, and books written by many who are in the business, including myself.
Not sure the forum allows any type of personal response more than that (any time I've answered anything personal, the Forum Gods, send me YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN THE FORUM messages) The forum rules clearly state that we cant promote anything here, which is a rule. So that is why I suggest you do your own search for "windshield repair business marketing" in Google yourself, outside of this forum, so you can find all the good stuff that does exist, there is some good stuff out there!
But I am happy to answer any questions you have....Feel free to contact me through my website for any questions you might have. I am trying to help those who ask.
But, regardless of who writes what, find out what is great and USE it! (you can do a search on THIS VERY FORUM of ALL the posts anyone here has posted in the past (myself included) and see for yourself if it makes sense to you). And if you find some good stuff you can incorporate, then that's even better. You be the judge! Use what you can and toss the rest!
I have learned a ton of great stuff myself, right here in this forum!! there are some talented, experienced folks here.
Hope that doesn't sound too vague, just trying to point you in a direction that will lead you to some resources without violating forum rules!

Re: Getting Started
Marty,
Please do not refer to the moderators of this forum as forum gods. That is extremely offensive to me, especially when you use a capital G. We all know you are on this forum to promote your books, and even though you clearly break the rules of this forum on a regular basis by dropping your URL, phone number, e-mail address, etc., all by accident of course, the moderators have not banned you, but have instead bent over backwards to politely remind you of those rules. Yet you insist on making the moderators out to be the bad guys while you continue to pretend that you are not self promoting when you provide search terms that you know will take people right to your website. You know darn good and well that this forum is providing you more free publicity than all of your advertising combined, so that is kind of like biting the hand that feeds you, don't you think?
SGT and T4K are obviously on to you and I suspect they don't like the fact that you are deceiving people when you blatantly point forum members to your website, where you try to sell them your books. I'm really growing weary of this game you are playing. If you wish to continue offering your advice on this forum you are welcome to do so, but please quit pretending it is not all just for personal profit and quit dropping all the not so subtle hints to get people to search for your products. I've taken a lot of heat from other forum members who think it is quite unfair of me to allow you to promote your products when they are not allowed to promote theirs. They are right of course, but contrary to popular belief, moderators only ban members who refuse to follow forum guidelines as a last resort.
I really don't appreciate the fact that you insinuate that the moderators of this forum are heavy handed with censorship. When you joined this forum you agreed to abide by the forum guidelines just like everyone else. Forum moderators enforce those rules to the best of their ability, nothing more and nothing less. You make a lot of unnecessary work for them when they have to constantly remove promotional URLs from your posts, or from attachments to your posts. If you don't feel you are being treated fairly on this forum you are always welcome to contact the moderators privately, or to find another forum where there are no rules about self promotion, but to continually disrespect the moderators is extremely foolish in my opinion.
Some of your posts are very good so I hope you can figure out a way to contribute to this forum without the deceptive self promoting that is clearly against forum guidelines. Forum members have a right to know that you have a dog in the fight.

Re: Getting Started
I for one think Brent bends over backwards to try to be fair Antone tells you they can sell you a book to learn how is a fool
This buisness has many sides IE Fleet,Cold Call, Stationary Location etc every area of the country the market is different what works in one place wont in another having worked in 3 different cities I can tell you this is a fact. There is no magic solution you have determine your market and go from there.

Re: Getting Started
Maybe so, however, there is something to be said about applying a marketing system to any business you are in. The principals of success do not change based on the business regardless of the location of the specific business you are in. Sure one location may work in one place and not in another but a marketing system has more to do with one's attitude about people (customers) and about themselves. Not everyone is a born salesperson. Some people really benefit from following a guideline that others who are successful have followed.GlassStarz wrote:I for one think Brent bends over backwards to try to be fair Antone tells you they can sell you a book to learn how is a foolThis buisness has many sides IE Fleet,Cold Call, Stationary Location etc every area of the country the market is different what works in one place wont in another having worked in 3 different cities I can tell you this is a fact. Re: Getting Started
Thats true but if I was going to buy a system of success I would go with Scott Tyners He comes here and represents himself as what he is rather than trying to back door the rules and that says a lot about his integrity and also the integrity of the person who cuts corners and bends the rules
I dont know Scott but have reviewed his info and was very impressed also I tend to believe he is a decent guy when I lost my oldest Son in 03 he made a point of sending me his regrets . He saw a guy in the same buisness had lost a son and went out of his way to be supportive kind of a different guy than the Rule bender dont ya think?

Re: Getting Started
I've read a lot of books on marketing, including those offered by mrchips and Impact Marketing, so I certainly would not discourage anyone else from doing so. When I started my windshield repair business I had not experience in marketing and made a lot of mistakes. Had I done a bit of reading first I may have been able to avoid some of those mistakes. GlassStarz makes a good point in my opinion; there is no magic that will work for everyone, just as there is no magic system that will allow everyone to become rich buying and selling real estate or any other industry. There is also no substitute for hard work in my opinion. Still, the better you understand basic marketing systems, especially those that may be unique to the industry you are involved in, the better your chances of succeeding.
mrchips has provided a great deal of free information from his books on this forum, and much of that information has been very well received, especially by those new to the industry. It's only fair to commend him for doing so. The problem is that there lots of other people who offer marketing systems and for windshield repair technicians that have respected forum guidelines by offering information without promoting their products, directly or indirectly. Many forum members have purchased Impact Marketing's windshield repair marketing system, but Scott Tyner does not continually promote that system here. Other forum members have purchased marketing materials from Safe Glass Technologies, but although Brian Fenner has posted a lot of helpful information on the windshield repair forum, he also does not constantly reference the products that he sells here. I have allowed a few companies to offer their marketing materials on the "For Sale" forum because I know there are some forum members who can benefit from these products, but only those who are respectful of the forum guidelines and seek prior approval.
The point of my last post, was not to discredit mrchips or the information he has offered on the windshield repair forum, but simply to stop what I believe was a marketing effort that is not allowed here. If I allow it to continue I have no choice but to open this forum up to everyone else who wants to use it to market their products for free. I know not everyone agrees with me on this, but I don't want this forum to turn into nothing more than a marketplace. Why, you may ask? Forum members have the option to stay anonymous, and even have multiple identities, so it's very easy to deceive fellow forum members by pretending to be a customer of your own company really talk up your product, then respond with a great deal of praise and enthusiasm to your own post with an alternate identity, or simply have your friends and family members do that for you. Don't think that happens? We catch people at it all the time and it's not fair to the unsuspecting forum members. We even caught an employee of a very large insurance company playing this game recently. All of this occurs behind the scenes of course, so forum members are typically completely unaware that it is happening. The moderators get a lot of grief whenever a post is deleted, or heaven forbid someone gets banned, but I think if forum members who are critical of the moderators could see what we have to deal with on a daily basis they would view us a bit differently. We are not perfect, and often have to make judgment calls that fall into gray areas that we know will not make everyone happy, but we do the best we can.
Here is my dilemma. I certainly do not want to block access to marketing materials that may prove beneficial to windshield repair technicians, but if I allow companies to shamelessly promote their marketing materials here it will set a precedent for other companies looking for a place to advertise their products for free. Therefore, I feel it's best to hear from those who purchased the various marketing systems available rather than those who are selling them. What does everyone else think?
