Each company is going to have to decide which amount of coverage and type is best for their particular situation, meaning, if you only do WSR and 99% of the vehicles you do your repairs on can have the windshield replaced for under $250, then maybe liability will be fine for you. Keep in mind that while you're working on a vehicle and lets just say that your dremel slips out of your hand and stabs the hood of the vehicle you're repairing, your liability coverage will NOT cover the repair fees, but Garage Keepers will.
On a more personal level, I offer the following services completely mobile:
Detailing ~ Windshield Chip & Crack Repairs ~ Headlight Restorations
I have to have Liability with Garage Keepers because of some of the vehicles, motorcycles, watercraft, and RVs we work on are very expensive.
The reason I have a $1 million policy, well because some of the vehicles are worth over $250K, and you need to make sure you're covered. Plus to go from $300K to $1 million, it was only like $50 increase overall.
As for the additional insured cost of $20, some companies require that they be added, but some are satisfied with being just named on certificate and thats free.
Keep in mind that SGC requires a minimum of $300K in Texas, not sure if that everywhere else, but you might want to check into that prior to signing up for anything less.
So, for me to save almost $1K over a years time, it's WELL worth it!
