LOL, you guys are a riot, ok lets see if I can answer all of this.
First off it was a starburst chip that had 6 legs coming out of it. All of the legs where pretty small but 1 leg went out about 3 inches. No I didn't drill a hole, I approached it like I was filling any other leg but this was longer and had to take more time to flex, so what I did is I took the old tiny crack expander, the little blue one, and moved it to the very end of the 3 inch crack, I then went 1/8th of an inch further out and then dialed it down. I didn't put too much pressure, only enough to actually see the chip flex then I through a towel over it (so it didn't cure) and went looking for some more cars in that same parking lot. I came back and then washed all the outside glass on the car (exept the windshield) checked back on the crack and it was gone.

When you flex like that you can almost sit there and watch it fill, but you really have to watch because it is extreamly gradual. (Spelling sucks) :) I then removed the expander and let it cure for about 5 minutes with the expander off, as it cured the last little bit of the crack I could see looking straight down at it was gone. Bye bye, so long, see you later. It was great, customer couldn't even find it I had to show here where it was...... the best part was... she still couldn't see it. :) As for resin's I used a thin crack resin on the chip as a whole. Also it doesn't matter if its a subsurface or complete crack this technique works both ways. I have been using this techique for about a year now and it works great. I still flex from the inside but this works better, you just can't do it all the time.

Ok, sorry I didn't get all the questions answered to heres the rest. It was an extreamly thin crack and actualy was had 2 different area's where it edged and went in different directions other then straight. (I hate those) I didn't drill the end of the crack but I did have to drill the center of the starburst, but I only drilled 1/4 of the way through the first layer of glass.
Ok..... I think that answers all of them.......checking back........ok, yep that's got them all. :)

Hmmmmm.

I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw.

This is St. Pat's day and my youngest daughter's birthday.

Bein' Irish meself, and havin' imbibed a toddy or two and countless green beer taps this evnin, I'm going to take a close look at David's past two posts tomorrow sometime.

Whatever technique, sounds like it worked.

Repair1, glad to see you're back.

Gotcha, coitster.

You basicly hired a gopher to do the dirty work while you screwed around, huh?

I've thoguht about doing that, but didn't have the stones to use a mechanical means to flex it like that. Still makes me nervous just thinking about it.... man I'm breaking into a cold sweat here... let me take a deep breath... :-&

Ok, better now 8)

GlassDoctor,
Relax, sit down and hum some soft tunes to yourself. Think happy thoughts.... You won't split the windshield out buddy. :) You are only putting enough pressure on the glass to see it just start to flex, not crack out. :)

I'm still unclear, but I'll try using the crack expander to flex by attaching past the end of a crack on the windshield's exterior . I noted it's limited to around 3" length.
Thanks
