Could have been an anomoly, Sean. (You handled the charges just as any excellent technician with pride of workmanship would have done in your place.)

Are you screwing down the injector assembly too tightly to the w/s?

Was the w/s hot?

I usually flex from the inside with my thumb first. If that doesn't work, I very GENTLY flex from the outside using the probe and watching closely for any feathering.

The following will probably go over with some non-drillers like a fart on a wooden church pew. If I observe feathering using my magnifying glass, I drill the feathered end.

I remember a truck I did once that had a three inch crack when I started on it. Ended up with a 12" repaired crack. Stupid of me not to have cooled the w/s down and moved the vehicle into the shade in the first place.

LOL, Sean that has happened to all of us. ;) I will say this that if its 80 degree's outside and its in direct sunlight it might be as high as 120 degree's inside the car.

Had you just recently changed out your injector seal? I had been running very low psi because I was pushing through my seal. After training in Austin, I greatly increased psi by leaving my seal (Blush)unpenetrated.
On Monday, The next two windshields were in the sunlight and cracked a bit. Like you, I left the $120.00 on the table & departed with the windshields repaired, but not to my standard.
Unfortunately, I also backed off my sales effort. Guess I'll have to get BUSY!!

I, personally, laud your efforts and professionalism.

But, as a recent customer reminded me, any negative can be turned into a postive.

This customer, while overlooking my efforts, noticed a leg of a star run a few inches. Whilst I thought it, I never exclaimed the classic "oops." This customer's response was "Wow, I'm so glad we caught this now! I could have driven home this evening and it could have cracked out completely!"

This just served to remind me that I:

1. Attempted to repair a WS that was already damaged.
2. That, while I may have caused a bit more "runout" on the damage, I was able to complete my repair, restore structural integrity and provide the customer with a safe product.

Heck, I (or my medical inurance) have to pay my surgeon for repairing a broken limb, even if they can not restore it to 100%;)

The first thing you may want to remember and tryto go by is:

If you can't touch it, then you can't work it.

Take 5 minutes to cool it by opening the doors and shade the W/S all during the time you are setting up you tools and talking to the cust. asking how long it had been there. and just minor BS to pass the time looking busy. It will be ready at that time and 5 minutes has pasted by then. You just droped the temp down almost 10 deg.

Your two losses just told you spring has arived and to watch you temp on the glass.

Remember: If you can not touch it, then you can't work it.

I been doing that for 13 years.
