We are in a legitimate business, so why hide and be incognito ? When I get harressed , I will not come to see you and pull my 45 on you, I promess!

i would like to request that we can see at least your country listed so we can take a view of someones comments and also know their countries legal system like on this thread when international laws and need may be different. we have yearly MOT test here in the UK but you guys stateside may differ.

I would say if you dont allow yourself the "option" to do it within your matketplace that option will be taken away from you by market forces. We had a situation in the UK in the early nineties when we found out that Autoglass (Belron) were asking the BSi in London to ban all repairs in the swept area, and it very nearly got passed if it werent for us lobbying the BSi and getting on the steering committee to talk sense to them. As it is we still have the standard that does not allow it in Zone A which got passed because these things have to go forward by consensus of the committee. One of the biggest weapons weilded by the replacers is trying to strangle your business by "standards". The only people i know that still use the British Standard are replacement companies who want to justify the fitting of a new screen. Something that was originally conceived as a safety measure just gets used as a sales tool, which was the real intention all along. Fight for your right!

Is it safer to drive with an unrepaired chip in the acute area or a repaired one? If a repair is "unsatisfactory", couldn't a replacement be done?

Daveycrewcut has a great argument. People can go around making all sorts of fancy "standards" till kingdom come but in the real world people will just drive around with a chip, so what is better a repair or the original chip? I think the only problem comes when you do the repair then there is a question of liability to address which is more likely to cause a problem in the USA. There are lots of reasons to fear a new screen more than a bad repair and our industry should be putting the replacers on the back foot here rather than defending our position, No one has sued a repairer for a bad repair yet however therer have been plenty of law suits against replacers who have killed or maimed their customers. The "man with an improbable hair cut who cannot be mentioned on this forum for fear of a lawsuit" actually makes some good points about this subject, but i cant tell anyone about it cos he doesnt like people talking about his sacred work. But you are welcome to seek him out and read up on the skeletons in the replacement companies cupboards.
