I use a Norton pad and its about 3/8 thick and gives me plenty of safety.I guess you could but no reason to in JMHO

I Buy my 3m hook it from the auto parts store I use 600 grit and 1200 finish with a light hand sanding 2000 grit takes less than 5 min to do both lenses I prefer to use the cordless drill rather than a sander already have it in the box use it as part of my premier 2000 paint repair system. They use the hook it system with the scratch removal part of thier system so all i do is take the foam pad off put on the sand paper. Really works well I cant imagine anything quicker or more convenient

Yes 3m hookit is all I use and its the way to go.works perfect on this sander too.The difference in the sander vs a power drill is like comparing a Corvette to a chevetteLOL both will get you there but it just takes longer.GSTARZ, you would be amazed as to the level of damage we get in the south.I lived in the N/East for 25 years before coming back south and the difference is not to be believed.I think that the reason you can do lens so fast there is they have nowhere's the level of damage. 2-3 years here and they are shot!!! I have never seen them as bad as the Gulf Coast.They are everywhere and sometimes I just get tired of doing them LOL.There are techs in Fla.that do nothing but lights and some have fixed locations .Its crazy!! but I love it too$$$$$$$$ was 68 today................and sunny

So which are you saying is the way to go...

Metabo DA sander or Jepson rotarty sander, I know the Metabo will leave a grooveless finish, Rotary's can dig in because they spin in a perfect circle as opposed to the ranodm action of a DA...

The Metabo spins at 5000 - 10000 orbits per second, thats fast for an orbital machine, the Jepson is variable from 0-2600 prm... They both look like good machines...

As much as I like the look of the Metabo I might get the Jepson, I picked one up at the Expo and it felt good. Sorry to confuse you.

I have spent the last 4 weeks doing at least 50 pairs here in Fresno it gets 110 here and stays that way for months also lots of smog and other related goop in the air havent seen anything any worse than what I saw in Vermont 10 yrs old and a aweful coating that cuts the visability in half isnt unusual. Ive done neons where when the lights were on they just glowed the cordless has 2 speeds works fine for me and only takes 5 minutes tops on the worst pair known to man but hey thats why they make so many different tools each guy has thier favorite much like the blonde or brunette decicion each will do just which do you prefer

Here is what they look like.Just press it on the sanders pad (velcro hookit)and use whith all 3" discs,papers,scuff pads

The sanders are about 116.90 well worth it and the best for headlight work that I have seen yet.

Why not just purchase the one from Dvelup its cheaper?

I think its a good tool with quality that will last, the price will be about the same as dvelups other tools, It would add some prestige to Ben's Headlight kit, he should also consider the Jepson variable buffer, Ive looked at both till I'm blue in the face...

I already have the jebson and there orbit but I am thinking of buying the Matabo for the variable trigger and I am use to using an angle grinder because I have more control with it also.
