lets try not to get into the personal attacks again take a big breath and get back on track the stated purpose here is to share ideas so someone says something you think is dumb rather than get into the little kid stuff state your case tell em how you do it and keep rolling along

I agree 100% GlassStarz. But look, just because I made a post stating the general fact that many upper level positions at car dealers are occupied by guys with arrogant attitudes, I wasn't indicating anything to do with anyone including myself lacking confidence or not being able to deal with those types.
So when someone follows it up with a big ASSUMPTION that what I said was an indication of weakness, I'm going to set the record straight. Maybe some guys aren't able to deal with the arrogant, smug, difficult types but I have no problem with them. One of my biggest and most loyal accounts is with one of the meanest SOB's in my area! I got that account by being confident and not being intimidated or antagonzed. I've kept it by carrying myself with confidence and doing good work. I agree that everyone needs to get along here and stay on track but I just don't like it when someone makes assumptions in regard to someone elses charactor.

If you read my first post in regard to most of them being pompus arses, I indicated that they "aren't worth the time to chit chat with". Maybe I need to explain that better in case someone doesn't understand. Once you acquire the business from those difficult types, don't waste their time with small talk and chit chat. They don't have the time and don't care. The ones with that type of attitude only want you there to do the work, so stick to the task at hand and don't concern yourself with being their friend. Those difficult ones can be more put off by you trying to talk to them and will appreciate you more if you just stick to business.

IMHO, One would be better served to get to know who approves the work and let them get to know you. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar. It can only benefit you to build a business relationship rather than just a cold vendor environment. For us, we see our dealerships once a week and there are times when being personable is appropriate and reciprocated or initiated by them. Yes, they can get busy and that is where common sense comes into play.Keep it business only at those times and avoid small talk. I am not saying become there best friend but always try to be professional despite there possible personality short comings.

It's not rocket science, it's simple human relations skills. If you are good at reading personalities you can sort out the personable ones from the business only ones. You deal with each in a different manner. You feel their vibe and adjust accordingly. The ones who don't want to be chat buddies will appreciate your get to business attitude. The ones who like to chit chat and get to know you will appreciate conversing with you. You'll get a feel for things quite easily. But there is no text book answer for dealing with them.
You'll always have to deal with a jerk along the way. They seem to be everywhere. But the good friendly folks always make up for the unfriendly jerks. Dealing with car dealers in kinda like this forum. There's always a bad apple or two in the mix. Sometimes ignoring them is easier than letting them get under your skin.

Dealing with car dealers in kinda like this forum. There's always a bad apple or two in the mix. Sometimes ignoring them is easier than letting them get under your skin.

Peace all.

It may be just my experience but one thing I noticed about dealers was the bigger the city the more they are almost too busy for the vendors. Smaller cities (or smaller used car lots in a big city) it's more laid back and you can even shoot the breeze with them. They appreciate you more.

Jay is 100% on the mid size and small guys are easier to get and easier to keep but if you can get in the door with a mega store they can be a full time job for the guy who does a couple things
