Dave M sounds like some of the pepple I have been trying to get jobs from like he is better than you and you are not worth the time of day. This is the B.S. that I see when someone thinks thay are better than you. I hope when I get (11 years) in I will be the same person as today and not let that money or what ever it is change me.

Tent locations....are they all they're cracked up to be?

When considering doing tent locations, do some research before investing $500 -$1000 in a tent, signage and rent deposits.

I've talked to numerous repair techs regarding tent locations and have heard both positive and negative things.

What I've concluded after hearing both sides is the following:

1) It's not for everyone! The largest amount of complaints centered around "THE WAITING." I myself like to be mobile. The freedom windshield repair offers was one of the major things that appealed to me.

Some people have no problem with the waiting and if you're one of these people, you may do very well.

2) You must be prepared to give it time! The techs who were successful with tent locations all said the same thing: It won't happen overnight. To give it a fair shot you should be willing to give it a minimum of 2-4 weeks.

People are into a routine. They might not even notice you for the first few days.

So, if you do decide to try it....be PATIENT!

3) Be consistent! Don't expect to be successful if you are showing up a day here and a day there. Decide which days and hours you will be there and STICK TO IT!

People will start to notice you and start to trust that you're not just a temporary setup....."here today and gone tomorrow."

4) LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! Don't just pick out a spot randomly. Research the area. Does it have heavy traffic (caution: heavy traffic does not always guarantee success)? oes it offer good parking and access?

Do not sign a long term lease in the beginning. Find a spot that the owner will allow you to pay month to moth in the beginning to see if it's going to be profitable for you.

5) SIGNS!!! PUT YOUR PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR SIGNAGE. If you don't do this, you're losing potential customers. Not everyone will stop to ask questions....but if they see a phone number, they'll call to ask about the "FREE WINDSHIELD REPAIR."

In conclusion...check around before buying a tent. Sam's and CostCo should offer them. I saw a 10x10 EZ-UP tent at Sam's recently for what appeared to be a good price.

Also, do a search on the internet.

Just do your research before investing money into this. For some techs it's working out great. For others it doesn't.

Sam's has a a nice white tent with sides and wheels for under $200.

I have one, but don't do any "tent" business... it's just a toy to have on a rainy day or 100 degree sunny day. It's worth it to have one just for the shade if you work in the heat a lot.

Glassdoctor mentioned that Sam's has the tent with the sides included.

I don't know for sure if the sides are made of material that can be lettered or not, but it would be worth checking out at your local sign shop.

It could possibly save you a little money over purchasing a banner. It would also give you a huge area to imprint on.

Just a thought.
