Weight, noise, and cost are the primary reasons plastic is used in many applications. There are several sites online that offer Metabo parts.

Just chippin away! There are 2 repair shops about 40 miles away from me. I will see if I can get the parts from them. I got my new orbiter a few days ago. I like the new design. I plan to put it to use as soon as the rain stops. The shipping box for it was almost destroyed. The sander appears intact and works. I've got to call Delta kits. A plastic bag containing the wrench, had two small springs in it. I dont know what the purpose of it is, and I didnt see anything in the small handbook reference to it. Anyone on here know?

My metabo is starting to make wore out noises now, I will have to most likely put new brushes in it. I have another one as a backup I bought a while back... Let me know how you like the new orbit compared to the metabo..

Candyman, the springs are an extra set of brushes for the electric motor if needed.

There should be a black carbon like piece on the end of those springs. Those are the brushes. The springs just put tension on the brush to hold it against the armature.

Ordered an electric d/a from Griot's Garage last night. They have a 15% off sale and free shipping. Total was $80 and some change. Hoping to give my compressor a break from having to work so hard to keep up with the pneumatic d/a, especially in this hot weather. The more the compressor runs, the hotter it gets, which makes for more and harder to control moisture issues. Probably should have done this 5 years ago, but some of us learn slower than others.
