Hey Greybeard,
Welcome aboard ! And thanks for the encouragement, too.

A couple of years ago I purchased one of those non-skid pads they make for under throw rugs so they dont 'throw' you, to protect the vehicle from scratching. The reason I like it is that it doesnt slip around like some other pads do. It is especially nice for slanted hoods such as some of the mini-vans have...nothing slides off. When it gets dirty, I throw it into the washing machine with a couple of work towels and it comes out like new. It's large too... so I can either spead it out or use it folded in half. A couple of months ago I was garage-sale shopping, and happened to find a brand new one, still in the wrapper for $2. Retail on it would have been about $12, so I snapped it up even though I really didnt need it at the time. They work great for me!

I wasnt planning to purchase a new ladder today, but it has been on my wish list. I really do like the one I have been using, and wanted to get the same for our RV, so I didnt have to keep playing 'put & take'. So today I was in Home Depot, and decided to just cruise past the ladders. There was my same ladder, except that this one also has a fold-down shelf, and HD had them on sale for $20 instead of $39.95. Clearance, they gal said. I decided there would not be a better time. I dont know if this was an 'in-house special', or if they are being discontinued in all the stores ? But if you are looking for a sturdy, lightweight, good-looking ladder like this, check out your local Home Depot.
