UV lamp vs natural UV

To answer this question logically I believe that windshield breaks under a magnifying glass are just like snowflakes...no two are exactly alike ! Because of this many times a good tech has to improvise or change his plan of attack even at mid-repair to get the best possible results.

You learn these improvisational skills only by trail and error and through the experience of many repairs. Each person will eventually develop his own style of repair based on past success and failures.

Brian , I have complete confidence in your methods and abilities- you have many successful long lasting repairs and satisfied customers under your belt. Thats all that matters. Lets not let egos get in the way here folks....

Dave M---At times in the past, when I was unable to gain access to the inside of the vehicle, I would use a mirror to reflect the suns rays onto the area under repair. I referred to that as bouncing UVs.

But I now carry one of those jump start devices to power all of my accessories....a hint from this forum. And I have developed the practice of using the lamp.

In no way do I feel I am the BEST repair tech ... there is only so much you can do with a repair. When I said I would put my repairs against anyone elses I meant just that ... we used to have repair contests after all our company meetings just for fun. We would have quality and speed contests..... but speed would be judged primarily on how quick you did the repair and also on the thoroughness of the repair. I own some ... I lost some, but an experienced tech with a real care for his customer will do just a good as the next experienced tech with a care for his customer if they both know the little tricks when they are needed.

That being said I don't think there is such a thing as a Best Repair Dude, unless you count effort spent and money earned into the equation ... which I still am not #1 in that arena, too few chips in Oregon for me to win that one hehe

Ummm ... you saw the windshield repair vehicles post right? If you perused the thread you would have seen the picture of Jeff .. it is clear by that picture that jeff is indeed the best looking WSR tech

in case you missed it I will repost the pic of Jeff standing in front of my WSR vehicle (I really do use this wherever I go .. fleets and all)

No harm meant by this post, but you NEVER use a curing lamp? Rainy days,nights, parking garages?
15,000-20,000 repairs and NO failures(your term was breakout)?

Hello Here in sunny Quebec my technicians and myself use commun sense to determine the proper curing method. In the summer months at high noon,the sun is the fastest method(to try put a drop of pit filler on the glass, one exposed to the sun the other under the lamp and observe arte 30 seconds, the sun will be harder in good conditions. Another valuable resourse that we use is the weather channel web-site, they provide the daily uv index, by charting cure times with different index ratings, you cans determine what is your safe no-light curing level.

Dave on post #28 .. we don't have a state test for windshields so it doesn't apply to me.

Bill ..... I do use a lamp usually 30-60 minutes before dusk and also indoors.
