GlaSS DOC
I use Galss Mechanix resins and injectors(with my own mounting base for cracks). What I might be doing differently than most is I don't use crack expanders(crack jacks, the little thing with suction cups and a screw, or what-ever you want to call them). I let the resin do the job, the GM resin has an extremely high capiiary action, so spreading the crack is not neccessary. The reason I prefer not to use the expanders is that they slightly distort the glass, and if you inject and harden the resin in this distorted state the crack is much more apparent due to the distortion. And yes the resin makes a difference, I have tried Delta, Glas-weld, Liquid resins, and GT Glass resins in the past all with adequate results but the GM crack seal seams to have a refration index closer to that of glass(This is of course my opinion, and your opinion may vary due to different driving conditions, please refer to your owners manual for tips on ...............).
For the 1 in 1000 stats, I too say get a new tech, 1 in 5000 might be acceptable, but 1 in 1000 is a problem..
Merci

Actually I live in Quebec

. Dribbling resin as you put it is not a problem, and niether is the cost of the replacement WS. The problem is a repair tech breaking a WS, our stat's so far( 2 years 7800 WS's 1 break) are well below 1 in 1000. Where is our frind from the other side of the pond? With his more than 31000(if i remember corectly) repairs he could give us some good ststs to compare to.
Merci

I have broken two windshields in my time and both shocked the hell out of me. They were what I consider very easy repairs, so you never know can happen any time. The area where I work is usually around 92 degrees in the shade and the sun will melt ya real quick. I have done around 1000 repairs and my theory is it can happen to anyone at any time, you have to be ready to make it right period.

Right and you still believe in the easter Bunny too? come on lets get back on track and quit spreadin the manure there are people here asking legit questions looking for real answers not dribble and boasting. In 3 years ive broke 3 and 2 were on the same day useing a new injector (which now lives in a landfill somewhere)stuff happens especially when its below freezing get over it and move on. The answer should be if you are careful and pay attention to your work a break is rare but they do happen and this is how I deal with them that tells the new guy something positive and helpfull. Your way is not you claim expertise and the desire to help lets see some

Merci,
So the rest of us can fully understand what your saying, please describe what you consider to be a break while repairing? For example, if your working a 6-10 legged 1/2" star and one leg happens to extend beyond 2"-4" during repair wouldn't you consider that a break? I fully understand you can perform a crack repair to cover your butt but truthfully to me it's still a failed repair. Maybe you look at that differently. To date I have not met one professional tech in this business that hasn't admitted to having a occassional failure while repairing, much less other techs working underneath them! Although your stats sound very impressive I'm not sure I truly believe them or should others. Being that your in Quebec, maybe things are different, temps don't reach 90-100 degrees in summer where a feather could drop on shield and cause it to break. If I have a tech that can perform 1,000 repairs without incidense, I'd consider him to be worthy, because that one failed repair means nothing when you break it down in dollar figures. Not to get down on you but stats really mean nothing when you think about it. It's a ego thing!
Happy repairing;)

I gotta agree with GlassStarz on this one. We need to concentrate on solutions to this problem. As he referred to... the best chance of lowering your odds of having this problem occur are being careful and paying attention.
So my advice is as follows.
Be extremely careful and cautious while setting up your bridge, clearing out loose glass, and drilling.
Even the easiest and most simple looking repairs have the possibility to crack out.
If at all possible devote ALL of your attention to the repair process and closely monitor the vacuum and injection cycles.
Avoid temperature extremes and improvise with heat, or shade, and cooling prior to your repair.
Closely inspect the chip with a magnifying glass prior to the repair to forewarn of any legs that may run out.
Be ready to release the pressure off of the injector immediately if you notice movement or extention in a leg.
The greater the pressure on the stem/seal of your injector, the more stress is placed on the chip.
Any thing I missed guys?????
Bob

Paintlessplus,
I agree with all your statements. However, your post does bring back another topic discussed in an earlier post. How does one follow all those steps and procedures while working on 4-6 different windshields with seperate injectors?
Also, StarQuest I believe Merci means thank you in french.
Repare-brise, you have not answered my question regarding inspections in Canada. Maybe you missed that post?
