Repair a repair?
Re: Repair a repair?
My experience with heat was on fleet cars where if the repair couldn't be done it was going to be replaced. The repairs looked like total garbage, not just a small air pocket or an unfilled leg. Yellowing resin in a vehicle that had not been in service for six months. I was simply backing up Screenman's statement that this can be done. If you don't feel comfortable doing something, don't do it.

Re: Repair a repair?
On this forum I state what I do and how I do it I do not ask that people follow me or agree with what I do.
I like to earn a good living as easily as possible and windscreen repair the way I do it works just fine.
I do most of my repairs for fleet and motor trade and 80% of them have been with me since I started so I think I must be doing something right by them.
As for redoing repairs mostly this sort of work is carried out for the motor trade where they are concerned about cosmetics.
This forum seems to be getting quite negative with plenty of people saying you should not do something without giving a thought out reason.
I think I will give the posting a rest for a couple of weeks and just watch.

Re: Repair a repair?
Screenman,
You have a lot of great input on this forum but not everyone will agree with all that you post. This is not meant to point a finger at you, we can all disagree at some point and time with whoever or whatever.
Maybe it's just me but when someone does disagree with you, for whatever reason, you seem to want to jump ship!
Isn't this forum a great media for learning and not agreeing?
In your above post you say that you do not ask people to follow or agree with what you say......

Screenman--
Just a short comment. I too agree that your input in here has been of great value to many of us, myself included.
To make your departure from here under the conditions that you have described would would probably do considerable harm to the respect that you have earned from all of us.
Please reconsider your post.

Screenman
If I left the forum when someonre disagred with me I would have been out the first week. If some people are not open minded enough to try new things, that is there loss. For those of us who are willing to try new things, we can only benifit from the experiance. My father used to say "You don't know you can't do something until you f@$%?&d it up", in other words if you say it canT be done without tring it you are the looser in the story.
So keep posting your experiances, those who are willing to learn will, those who aren't stagnate.
Merci

Re: Repair a repair?
He only said he was gonna watch and not post for a couple weeks ... it's not like he is going to kill himself or anything ... I happen to agree with Screenman on the fact that alot of people claim that there sis only one way to do a good quality repair and they happen to be doing it the only right way. Bullcrabs I say! We all do our own thing and if we are careful and conscientious about what we do then we have a way that works for us. Remember we are only working to make a living and not to try to in some sort of best rock chip guy award.

Davem.
I do not get upset with people who disagree with me I just ask that if you have a different opinion and this is not aimed at you personaly that you back the comment up with sound constructive reasons why it should not work.
Yesterday was the end of six hard days and just over

Re: Repair a repair?
Certain types of repairs can be re-repaired. Star breaks many times can be drilled and popped open to refill. Most combination breaks are pretty iffy. Safelite is a real big problem as most repair and replacement guys know. I've seen ALOT of poor workmanship from them, and I'm not afraid to speak the truth. I hope this repair or attempted repair is not in your critical view area! good luck.
