I have been restoring hl for 3 years, and resurfacing pitted hl as well, I use IPS system, plus special grade pads to get the results to like new, unless there is moisture or a slight film coating that is in the hl, it take about an hour to do prep and finish, I have heard of other products and procedures from other techs, but I have not seen the same or near results from how I restore them. I know that some of the auto parts stores sell a kit, and I have had to repair some, because of the people that use these quick fix kits, and these so called kits just make more damage.Any one that needs help with this topic on hl restoration, let me know.

I added HL resteration to my biz about 3 years ago. I started with the Bright Solution system that I got at the MTE. I found out VERY fast it sucked! It may work good in warmer climents but forget about it in Canada. I never had a result I felt I could charge for. The last MTE in 05 I took several lenses from Canadian cars that had gone through several winters. I asked for demos on my lenses. I found most companies wanted to sell me and others on how fast the job can be done and how much you can make. Thing is their results were poor. IPS was the only product that gave the wow factor. Everyone who saw my samples picked the IPS lens as the CLEAR (pun intended) winner. I have used it over the past year. I have NEVER not been impressed with the results. The top coat product, which is water based, handles the moisture and cold conditions fine. Bright solutions product foged making the lens look worse (yes I called thier tech support etc) I mention this top coat as water based because other suppliers at the show were pushing solvent based sealers. They said that ANY water based sealer would fog. I can state that the IPS sealer has NEVER foged. Someone mentioned the clear coating on lens. To do a good job this coating has to be removed. Wet sanding is a must for any resteration. Leaving any of the old coating on seems to result in a blotchy result. I will be at the MTE again this year. I anyone want to talk about this track me down. Matt and Jeff will point me out, or throw something at me!

I also do headlight restoration. The majority of my customers are car dealers so a top coat sealer has not been an issue.I have started doing many private customers and as such charge much more for my service.I use a 3M Hookit system on an electric D/A , final buffing with 3M Perfectit compound. Now my question is can I buy just the IPS SEALER as a final coating for longevity without buying the whole system? My system works great and I just need a final top coat sealer.Or any other tested products.Any info would be appreciated.

IPS wont sell to you unless you have bought their system. Do you use an interface pad with the DA? Is it a true DA or just an orbital sander? Can you give the model # of this DA? any info would be great as the sanding is the longest, hardest part of the job. I do it just by hand, and spend about 1hr for a pair. I know others that do it without a sealer but the lenses do discolour again in a few months. Have your dealers been happy with the results?

jonnyques...i use a jepson drill and put in a new variable trigger. i also have an old black and decker drill with a variable speed trigger..rightlook has a 3" backing that fits into drill....just make sure whatever you buy is variable speed so you can sand at a low speed and turn up to buff

Well I have several VS drills and 3" backers, hook & loop. What sanding discs are you using, brand grits etc, Im assuming there wet/dry. Do you also use an interface foam pad to help with the contours? You havent had problems with sand swirl marks? Thanks

I also am looking for just a good topcoat clear to complete my system that doesn't fog up and lastsa long time so that I can justify a higher price charged. As well as a way to better myself than just the average joe with a buffer and some compound.
