Plexis will not repair a UV coating.A urethane based exterior coating with UV blockers would not do what you describe. How can you make a statement about what some other guy did 1.5 years ago ????Its called chemistry .This is the same system that most of the proven systems sell a version of.The sealer is designed for a very harsh enviroment (marine UV) and the chemicals will not do what you describe or react to sun in a negative as this is what they are designed and formulated to do.I have sets I see often that were done in 2005 that look fine. What ever were on the set you described was not what is used by 1000 's of PRO TECHS every day world wide. What many of us use is the basic chemicals that are used in OEM from the MFG.A knowledgable tech would have stripped the lens and refinished for $$$$$$ How much clearer a sealer are you looking for??? The lens I and most others here do look like glass. The sealer is clear from the can. Please dont judge a process when your info is not correct.jac59;31454 wrote:This past thurday a guy came by and thought i was the same guy that worked on his headlights about 1 1/2 year ago but he saw me and then knew it was not me.
Well the coating that someone put on it faded and started peeling it was brown i mean looks like maple syurp.
i told him it was a mess and it would be better to replace them. I didnt want to do them and later turns out the same with the 1/1 mix cause its light brown color and sure think its the same that was on his lights.
Right now just and and buff with polish and spray plexus and tell them polish every 2 to 3 months and tell them the breakdown of uv coating on their headlights. Going to look for something more clear.

Yeah more likey they didnt clean well cause it was in diffrent spots on the H/L and sure looked bad it was like it was put on real thick.GlassStarz;31458 wrote:If it peels they didnt clean thing well enough and who knows what was on the outside?
Re: Dvelup's Sealer Thicken'g
They might have just used a cheap interior type varnish and not thinned it out.I have seen some crazy stuff done to lens ...........but if you have the equipment and a little patience they will come back$$$$ real nice!! If the sealer is applied correctly it will be undetectable to most people.

Yes i have equipment and have done them and they look brand spankin new and the guys were well pleased.harrellbenjamin;31465 wrote:They might have just used a cheap interior type varnish and not thinned it out.I have seen some crazy stuff done to lens ...........but if you have the equipment and a little patience they will come back$$$$ real nice!! Im not sure what the other guy used but the varnish was real brown and where it peeled it was cleaned it was just that the guy was a little moody and didnt want to deal with him.
I am new to this and have done a lot of refinishing furture which wood is stained diffrent shades so it never bothered me but have not worked on clear plastic before.
Plesus is not a uv blocker but a cleaner and a polish i have it on my van 4th month now and no change. The 1/1 helsmans is light brown I just thought might be some clearer varnish but seems to be none i think. Did not mean any harm by correcting any one just at a learning stage and would like any pointers for improvement. The point i mean by doing the H/Ls is i dont want to be doing one months or a year from now and some guy drives up that i have done before and starting to look bad and im working on someones H/L s .

Also a thing to consider is where you live.If you are in many states the damage will be minimal. If you live in an area like I do (Gulf Coast) you would not believe the damage we have here.Different things work a little different depending on the area .We tried Plexus here and it was a little better than just polishing out but did not hold up well. because of the extreem heat and sun damage. The main thing with any good sealer is that it will actually fill in the pores and voids in the plastic and improves the optics and appearance.Go with what ever works in your area and get the money lol$$
Re: Dvelup's Sealer Thicken'g
Got my trim a sheild this morning boy did it go on easy with a brush it lightly clouds but then becomes clear could overlap and still no streaks or bubbles.
Could use the paper towel and does the same .

Re: Dvelup's Sealer Thicken'g
I would wonder how it would hold up being water based?? I have the Trim shield kit and am not to impressed with its performance. But thats maybe to my desire for a permanent repair when I re coat plastic trim and not a shiny band aid........

The paint on BMW is water based all auto paint is supposed to be in 2009
I know the new formulation at Trimonex is supposed to be much better and as durable as any urethane I know the suff sticks well on the trim plastic

Yes the BASE coat on many cars new cars is water based. Then they are ALL clear coated with at least 2mil. of urethane based clear coat to keep from fading and to protect it from UV and the elements. If the car was just painted with water based basecoat it would fail with in days.
It has to be cleared to last."Paint 101"
In some minor trim issues I have used the Trimonex.Door Handel /mirrors.It has a place on my trailer. My concern would be with the clear lasting.Hey if its good ,its cheap and easy to apply.I have a set to try it on (my sisters Mustang LOL)that I will be able to monitor over time.No repercussions from family when you do a freebie LOL

They have a true waterbased clear at premier its new
The new formula of trimonex is different longer lasting and much easier to apply without streaking I liked the old stuff but the new is night and day better
Urethane is going away in auto paint by law they have delayed it several times but the word in the paint companies they are not counting on another extension
