Got a call from one of my commercial clients today asking if I could stop in to do a couple chips. He is a premium Land Rover repair shop that specializes in Rebuilding Rare ones for high ticket customers around the world so its always fun to see the cool Rovers.
When I arrived he led me to one that only 500 were made so the glass is a little hard to find
The tech had installed the rear view mirror too high so they removed it to mount it a little lower and had taken a huge hunk of glass with it maybe 2x3 and almost to the laminate a CRATER. I looked at it awhile and thought about it. Customer was to take it home for the holiday and could bring it back for new glass in a couple weeks but if he couldnt have it this weekend he was going to be pissed.
I took 2 2x2 cure tabs and some pit filler placed one at the bottom of the break put a huge gob of pit filler under it holding the bottom with my thumb let the stuff flow and the tab flip down over it this still left a hole up top so I did the same with another tab put the lamp on it for awhile removed the tabs and cleaned it up. Still had a big hollow in the middle so I repeated it again with one tab this time cured the heck out of it and left the tab in place cleaning all around it
Tech put the state inspection sticker over the repair ( they go over the mirror here so it was exactly the right spot) and off the customer drove happy as a clam. our inspection sticker is 4x4 so it should hold everything in place till the new glass arrives and my customer was about as happy as I have ever seen one.
The customer is a highway driver so no big pot holes to pop it out.
