How many guys or girls out there have a permanent location they work every day and about how long does it take to start recieving a fair amout of work. I've seen several guys with locations like this that have been around for a long time so I know it works but I would like to know what kind of time frame to expect before a descent amount of repairs start coming in. I'll be starting mine the first of September. I also welcome any advice.

There's a repair tech that's been working a large trade center in my area for 7 years now. From what I've heard he does very well, especially in the summer months. Anywhere between $1500-$2500 per 3 day weekend. Thought about setting up my own tent their to compete but then changed my mind. Why crash his party to split a smaller piece of that pie? After 7 years in one place I think he deserves that spot. I have respect for people like that. The other problem was I couldn't imagine myself working every weekend from (7am-9pm, Friday,Saturday and Sunday) during the summer months. Not my idea of enjoying life
Windshield repair is still one of the few businesses available where you can make a good living without being stressed, dealing with employees or working 60-70 hours per week.
I currently service Saturday truck fleet accounts where I'll make $250-$400. Ocasssionally, I'll work Sunday mornings to make another $200-$300. Nice thing is the way I have scheduled these locations. It will only eat up 2-4 hours which includes travel time. This is my idea of making money and still enjoying life.
If you want to set up a everyday tent location....go for it! My guess is with the proper training, skills, equipment, materials and advertising.....it will take you 3-6 months to establish a decent customer base. Only problem is you'll limit yourself to one location and the same consumer traffic flow week after week. Although business may start out good, you may find sales slowing down after a while.
My best advice to you is approach windshield repair as a much bigger picture. So many different ways to acquire profit from this business. Spend some extra time reading all the posted forums listed and you'll understand what I'm saying.
Good Luck!

Steve, the tent concept has its positives and negatives as Starquest has alluded to. I have been in one location for 16 months and my only regret is getting mixed up with 5 Minute Rock Chip Express.
A couple things to take into consideration are: tent saturation in your area, convenience of the location, cost of the lease, having great banners to attract potential customers attention, and your sales ability.
In a good location, your sales will probably take off fast and start to tail off after 2-3 weeks. My first day in business, another person and I did 20 repairs. I did over 200 repairs that month, now about 100 per month since 5MRCE put a company tent 2 minutes away.
One of the positives is you being there on a regular basis, people may not have a chip one day but the next they do. They know where they can go. This last week I had a lady who got chipped and she knew to check my location. From the time of receiving the chip to finished repair was 45 minutes.
Feel free to pm with more questions on this subject.
