LED lights
LED lights
I am toying with the idea of getting some 5W LED's installed on my vehicle which will go through various cycles when parked. I get plenty of hits off the truck during daylight and think drawing some well placed attention at night will help some more. Anyone else do this? I will post how well it works.

Scratchy, are you talking about one of those programable electric signs about 5"x24", that you can put information on and the messages scroll continuously? They cost about $140 at Sam's? I had thought about using one of them too, but just havent got around to it yet. I had in mind to use it with my motor home ... never had the idea to use it in my vehicle ... sounds like a great idea to me ... all you need is a converter to change it to 12v power. If you do that, you will also want to be able to provide collateral materials for those who are interested ... I have one of those info-tubes like the realtors use attached to my truck ... put in there some business cards and some brochures or flyers.

Could also use it when you are doing repairs, to get attention .... program it to say "repair in progress ... then information about wsr, including that insurance will pay, etc" There's probably a lot of applications, once you start to think about it.
I would say, though, remember to turn it off before it drains the car battery.

You think the cops would mind if I put one of those in my rear window while driving around town? Imagine the effect on the guy behind you sitting at the stop light... how could they NOT read your advertisment?

I was thinking that too hahahhaaaa, you can get them in many different sizes with numerous lines and colors, one line could flash your ad, the other with your phone number constantly showing... just drive thru town picking up business... Ive no idea if its legal... but shop windows and sign boards have them...
Re: LED lights
Talked to a buddy of mine who is a deputy in VA. He couldn't speak on anywere else but in VA you can't have any visible lights on a moving vehicle that are not DOT approved.
Re: LED lights
Hey Scratchy, I have been using the moving LED lights by placing it up in my front window on the dash of my Chevy Astro van when Im parked doing a repair or just setting up somewhere. It works great! If I set it on just the lemon color by itself you can see it really good even during the day. My side windows and top front windshield are tinted pretty dark and Im sure that helps it keep the glare down so it can be read. When I read your thread I was blown away that someone else has got the same idea I had. My astro van is paneled all the way around and is fully dressed up in windshield decal logos and that helps a ton also but the led light thing is an awsome attention getter and draws them in like Flies. I highly recomend it
Re: LED lights
I think same goes to Lousiana here. No lights should be allows inside a moving vehicle.
If this was legal, imagine all the advertisements all around the streets with lights flashing all over the place while you're driving. Just imagining this makes me feel like I'm in Time Square.
