I was repairing a small "batwing" break today. So small only about 1/16" was sticking out from the seal on my injector,and only on one side. the other side was covered by the seal. There was a small amount of air trapped in the wing. I was scared to flex it at the tip of the crack,didnt want to put pressure there and chance it running. I flexed from the inside lightly but that wasn't much help. I went through 3 vac/pressure cycles( GlasWeld injector) and still had air under the seal. The ends of the "wing" were filled so I feel confident it wont fail. But there was still a black spot right in the middle of the break. I wasnt happy with the result so I didnt charge for it.

Anyone know any tricks for handling these small breaks?

I know I could drill and pop a bull but I already had resin in there and didnt want to take off my injector and drill/pop put injector back on.All while hoping the resin already in there doesn't cure while I'm working. :eusa_thin

I have had the exact same experience a few months ago. I ultimately did not charge for the repair either. But here is how I am going to tackle it next time I am repairing one of these batwings...

Drill, and pop a mini bullseye at the impact point. In my case, there wasn't much of a "body" to fill, so creating one simply provides a passage for resin flow. Don't use heat, and only flex when necessary. I don't use heat at all any more, and I also flex from the outside now. Since I have made these two changes to my old methods of repair, my repairs come out absolutely perfect.

Its ok to move the injector aside and drill and pop after you have started. every once in a while ive had to do this and it makes a huge difference. as long as you have been blocking the UV from the repair it should be ok. just yesterday I had a crack I was repairing and it was not taking resin. I was starting from the end of the crack where I had to drill and pop a mini. well the mini I popped must have been so tight it wouldnt take resin. I tried twice with the injector on and off trying to get it to accept resin when I finally moved the injector and popped it again with my probe it opened right up and took the resin. I use a hand towel to block uv and that was enough to keep it from curing the whole time.

BTW I'm using a Delta Kits bridge and injector so It is very easy to just slide it out of the way to redrill and or pop.

Batwing aka Cateye...same animal? Anyone?
