Hey everybody ...

I am looking into the possibility of offering window tinting as an add-on to windshield replacement/repair that I currently offer. I am completely new to this kinda thing so ...does anyone know please:

* The best place to train, if any;
* Which tools produce the most professional result;
* How long it takes to learn;
* Average labour/costs to charge.

I hope someone out there can help!
Thanks very much.

I'm a former mobile detailer/tinter and I would like to add windshield repair to my business when I get started again. Perhaps you could give me some pointers. Heres my input.
1. As far as training, I never went to any training school or anything like that. Personally I think they're very expensive, However proper training in this service is a must. I paid/bartered with an experienced window tinter who taught me the ropes and from there practiced on friends and aquaintances vehicles from there on(first letting them know I have little experience and charging them only cost of materials) I dont recommend practicing on customers vehicles like we did. Also, check out http://www.autowindowtintings.com - they have some great training DVD's for sale.
2. For tools there are many places to get them from. You can get them from tint suppliers which I find can be alttle more expensive. I personally go to http://www.filmhandler.com - they sell all the professional tools you need.
3. Learning tinting isn't easy so how long it takes is up to you. They're are so many kinds of cars and applications. Some cars are a cinch and some are very difficult.
4. As far as labor costs and charge I think this is one of the best in the business as far as mark-ups. On average you might use $15-25 in materials. Your average tint job sells for about $150 and up too, or over $200.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions and please give me some pointers on WSR

Thanks!!!

Thanks alot for all the information, I appreciate it Be specific on what information you need. I have posted on another topic about "Whats the Best Route" which is really helpful.

I have found that if you need specific info hit the title: i.e marketing plan into the search area on this forum and it pulls off alot of information. Experience and age counts for everything and at 29, and only a years experience I am also in need of help re windshield replacement and repair. All the best to you.
