Windshield Repair Forum

I have just started in the glass repair business. I called a couple of windshield repair shops and asked if I could have windshields they have disposed of to practice on. They basically said no. In reviewing many comments from you folks that have been in the business for any length of time the message is practice, practice, practice.
Also what has anyone used as a stand to set up the windshield so as to practice?
I also want to express my appreciation to Delta Glass for this wonderful forum.
For the last few days I have been reading a lot of the questions and replies to those questions and cannot believe the wealth of knowledge or the willingness to help that is available here. Thank you in advance and I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

You have a couple options. The best would probably be to go to an auto salvage yard and ask them if you can repair the windshield chips in their cars. Also, worse case scenario, you can purchase a cheap windshield from a glass shop, or buy a practice sheet from us. A cheap windshield would probably be better, because it's bigger and you don't have to worry about shipping.

Nice to hear from a future repair man from Maine. I'm just south of you in Westbrook!
Jeff's suggestion regarding salvage yards is great, but as you know right now we are having a problem with ice, water and snow. Those cars are most likely covered with all the above and would not at this time of year be a suitable practice windshield.
I'd suggest finding a local replacement guy, not from the "bigger" glass shops but from a small independant like you and I. He may be willing to help you out more than the others.
As far as the w/s stand, you can find some for sale from some of the w/s repair manufactures. I don't see one in Delta's catalog (ask Jeff), but I do see one in Liquid Resin' catalog for $38.

If you put your trash in someones dumpster you are a criminal, if you take their trash there is no crime- dumpster divers make a living off this!
