Windshield Repair Forum

Hi to all.. I guess just like alot of other new people here, I have been reading these boards and soaking up as much information as I can about the WSR business. I am just now scheduling my training and will be taking the WSR training within the next month. I am mechanically inclined and had my own house painting company for a number of years. Whenever I had a problem in the painting business, a hole in the wall, cracks etc I was always able to fix the problem by filling,sanding painting over the problem area until I got it right. If I didn't get it right the first time there was always the oppotunity to keep repairing the area until I did get it right. It seems in the windshield repair biz there is not much room for mistakes, and if you mess up, you potentially can ruin the windshield. I guess my main question would be, when you run into a problem repairing a windshield and your in the field, does calling a tech for help over the phone really work to walk you through the problem?? Have any of you called about a problem repair and not been able to explain or fix the repair properly over the phone? I guess I am just concerned about starting on a job and getting stuck and then looking like an idiot for not being able to finish the repair.

Anyway, I just wanted to say this is a great forum and I have been reading all the pasts posts and have learned quite a bit here. Thanks to Delta and all the guys and gals who share their ideas here. I'm learning alot!!

If you're having trouble with windshield repairs, you CAN keep at it until you get it right, if you haven't cured the resin either with your light, or spent enough time in the sunlight to allow the sun to cure. Make sure you are using some sort of shield/dome/towel to remove UV until you're ready. Nothing is final until it's cured.

Speaking from the tech support end, we certainly do help people every day with tough breaks, breaks they haven't seen yet, etc. The main thing, I think, is just reassurance that they are proceeding correctly, even if they haven't yet run into trouble. I'll let other guys though, answer whether they feel they've been helped by any company's tech support.

Yes tech help over the phone is a valid option, and does work(I also do phone tech help for my techs). The need for this help will diminish as experiance sets in. One suggestion I have to offer is to get a practice piece of glass and have at it, this is the best way of gaining experiance without possibly dammaging your burgening reputation.
