star chip got bigger

I've been fixing rock chips for 3-4 months now. Not many. Friends family, insurance referrals. I went to fix a star chip the other day and as I was injecting resin one of the legs on the star ran about 4-6 inches. I thought I had it stopped and repaired. The very nest day the woman(who works with my Mom and is a friend) was driving to work and said she watched it spread right in front of her eyes. It spread in two different directions. It has me concerned that I am doing something wrong and that all the rest of the star chips I've fixed will start to spread. The only thing I can think of is to go back to the practice glass and go to town. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is my first message on this board.

Welcome northidahotim,

I would highly recommend calling for tech support to whoever you bought the kit from. In the space of 15 minues, you can probably have answers to your satisfaction, as opposed to the forum which takes longer, and the responders don't typically have all information.

Tech support is free for our customers, and i'm sure other manufacturers offer the same.

Sounds to me like too much pressure was applied to the damage. You don't need alot of pressure, just alot of patience.

Agreed with the pressure theory also in an unstable break a mini bull is nesssesery to stabiize the running leg. Resin to the end of a crack is not the end all be all of crack repair!!!!

jeepers creepers ...I hope that i don't have problems like that with chips'bulls and small star breaks. I was planning to offer warranty on those. It's the short and long cracks that I'm forcasting might give me some problems.

Tell us some more did you do a dry out, any moisture left in end of legs etc do you know what to look for when checking for moisture etc.

I do not think that excess pressure would make a chip run 2 days later this is more likely to happen when you are doing the repair.

I warranty all damage up to 12 inch cracks regardless of how they happen.

Get some more practise mess ups like this can and will blow your confidence.

I use the moisture evaporator but probably don't know exactly what I'm looking for. I need to call the manufacturer who sold me the kit you are right about that. I'm sure it;s me and not the equipment. I use Glas-weld and they have been very helpful and their equipment seems to me to work very well. I'm just new and need more practice. I now have a windshield set up in my living room and plan on practiceing all I can. Hope to be full-time by the end of spring. Feel this can be a great business if taken seriously. Sorry it took so long to reply. computers down. At mom's so thought i would check in real quick. Thanks so much for the input.

Windshield in your living room...Man your gonna be smelling resin fumes in your sleep as well as tainting the food in your kitchen with that resin smell.Never mind what your other half is gonna say about that.As I was telling another guy earlier that was usaing his house as a shop .. You better throw a blanket in the dog house just in case you need it.
