Hello, this a total newbie question im sure but i have to ask it... Is there any way to get around needing a fax machine or number in general. I am just getting started and plan to purchase my delta kit within the next week to start doing business. The problem I ran into was when i was trying to become a member to lynx/metryx, it appeared to require a fax machine. Is this true?

go to efax.com and register. It's free, you get a fax number that works every time and they e-mail you your fax.

Lynx still calls when they dispatch a claim to you. I don't know about safelite and don't expect to hear from them anyway. plus, if you sign up for
E-directglass through delta kits you can just log in and all the claim information is there.

Another temporary solution is to use the fax # of a Mail Boxes Etc. type place. They usually charge $1.50 or so per fax and usually you can cherry-pick and pay for only the faxes you need (so any spam or insurance co. memos can be discarded). Or if you live in an apt. like I do, the leasing office might be willing to let you use their fax # (especially if you aren't getting that many faxes). To send faxes, just buy a cheap machine at a pawn or thrift shop and use your regular phone line. I just remembered, there's a product called the Emerson Switchboard, when used with call waiting it lets you talk on the phone, get on the internet, and send and recieve faxes all on the same phone line.

We got a cheap brothers fax for around $50.00 and had our phone company add a fax number to our account it is like $5.00 a month on your bill. Not too expensive but also sounds like efax.com might be a nice way to go :) Also if your new get a website going and send to all your friends online :) We got a nice fleet acount this way. if you need help with website just let me know.

Look into a cell phone that is capable of receiving faxes. I really like that cool new Motorola Q. My partner has it and has already become addicted.

We have had a dedicated fax line since we started. You can get the line for cheap just don't add long distance on it as you can recieve from anywhere without the additional charges that come with Long distance access. You can fax out to a distance by switching lines manually.

Well it's almost 2 years later but here's a new product that seems useful to this thread: http://www.magicjack.com/site/index.html.

I just seen that early this morning and wondered how it worked and if it worked good. Looks pretty cool and a sweet idea.
