I had an insurance referral today but when I got to the job it was totally weird looking LOL The damage is very hard to describe but I will do my best. Location: Lower center of windshield. Damage: 1/2 moon approx. 1 1/4 inches in length with a 3/4 main crack branching off of that. Off the 3/4 inch main crack there were 4 smaller cracks that branched off the end of that. The 1/2 moon had a 1/8 inch pit on the lower part and a 2nd smaller pit located at the top. I am including a drawing of this weird damage.

I recommended a replacement. What would you guys have done?

Your drawing hasn't been approved yet so I'm guessing as to what you're seeing. It sounds like the WS was hit in 2 spots by the same rock. I've had these. Repair the large break as usual. If you're lucky resin will flow through the large crack and into the smaller ones. Or, you'll have to treat the smaller pit as a second break (2 chip repair). Sometimes the impact points are close enough that I can swivel my bridge without removing it.

Overall size is about 2-2.5" in width and 1 3/4" in height.

Pit fill the smaller pit and cure. Then repair from the larger pit. These can take some patience to get filled. If it's not filling all the way then drill out the second pit and fill from there.

I concur with Mafsu 100%. I generally probe the tips of these hairline cracks to verify they're filled all the way.

Thanks did you guys see the pic yet? The crescent moon seemed to be one whole damage but seemed like 2 impact points so I assume they were joined. The second upper pit had a 1/8" or bigger chip out of the glass surface along side the impact point. Do you really think the 5 branched off cracks would fill? I recommended replacement but wondered if I could have fixed it if I had more time. Thanks for all the help guys

Haven't seen the pic, but from your description it sounds very familiar. Need to see the pic first but it definitely doesn't sound like it needed to be replaced.

I don't think this type of damage would need replacment.

From my experience, i would tackle this by placing the injector on the bottom impact point. This should fill most of the damage. If the long crack (including the multiple legs) do not fill then cure the first part of the repair, then drill and pop the centre of the crack from where all the legs are branching out! Then fill.
