Question about tents and where to set em up

my question is ... is how do you approach a company to get them to allow you to put up a tent... or do you just put one up in their parking lot.. also can you put one up somewhere where you may not be noticed by the owner aka a deserted department store that is no longer in business but still has alot of traffic passing by... any suggestions on how to approach ppl. I currently work for a company that gets all the locations for me but I know there is alot more profit from this to be made than me havin to give up half what i make to them.
