Starting a windshield repair business

After many years of hard work in the automotive glass industry, I recently decided that it is time I start doing something of my own, and went ahead and bought a Delta kit. Now I am still confused as to what method of advertising works best, other than personally visiting car lots, and trying for fleet accounts.

Emil,

Traditional advertising in the chip repair business is sometimes hard to justify. I am still a firm believer in the yellow pages, but many on the forum will argue that is not necessary. I can only go by my own experience, and the yellow pages paid off for me, where TV, radio, and newspaper ads did not.

If you check the archives you will find that lots of technicians have had great success, simply by following the advice of Coitster and others that have developed successful and proven strategies for marketing their service. It may take you a couple of hours to read through it all, but I think you will find a number of good ideas that won't cost you much to try.

There are also some good marketing manuals out there that are specific to windshield repair. Plan on spending a few hundred bucks to get something worthwhile if you go that route.

The most important thing to remember is that you cannot afford to be shy. If you see a broken windshield, you need to ask if you can repair it. If you are driving by a fleet (more than one vehicle owned by a single company) of any size, you need to stop and ask if you can check their cars.

I know that is over simplifying the issue, but I really think that is the most difficult thing for technicians to do; be assertive. The most outgoing technicians are often the most successful, mainly because they talk to more potential customers.
