All the time. Last week I had a customer who found me in the telephone book and asked if we could set things up for her because she did not like to talk on the phone. When we called safelite they thought we were the customer and proceeded to tell us that my company was not on their network and then tried to set a appointment for themselves,(We have been on the network for four years and received five jobs). After telling them we were the company and we were setting up the claim for our customer they quickly put us on hold then hung up. After calling back I was told that the shop was unable to do that and the customer needed to call herself. When I called my customer back and explained to her she needed to call and request my shop for us to do the work she said she would. She did call and they still set the appointnent for themselves!! I contacted her insurance company nationwide (who gives out safelites 800 #)and they said they would look into it and call us back. I still have not received the call. I guess that saves safelite on their advertising bill. As far as I'm concerned they used my add and got my customer.

Safelite does this all the time. If you are going to have the customer call the insurance company make sure you are on the phone when they call. Because they called their insurace company phone number they are naturaly going to believe safelite over you. This is one of the reasons I don't do insurance work anymore.

If you pick a job up and it is for safelite insurance company, tell the customer not to call the insurance company because you would like to determine if the windshield can be fixed ?,when arriving at the appointment and the windshield can be fixed .Ask the customer to call the insurance Company to get a refferal # while you are repairing the windshield

If a customer is going to call in a claim to Safelite themselves, I request that they tell the Safelite agent that they already have an appointment with my shop. This seems to help.

For what its worth, I had a GMAC (Safelite) agent tell a customer that I was on their "preferred" list. Made my customer, and me, happy.

Hi there up here in Mass we have a Insurance Company called ONE-BEACON they will give $200-to $300approx to the network if its a repair or replacement .No idependent glass replacement or repair persons will do any work for this insurance Co because it will be steered away from them .Regarding Steering if a independent- glass shop or repair person makes a appointement with the customer the network will be still listening in, to the telephone call ie when the appointment will be made the network will go 1 hour before the independent glass or repair person and steal the JOBb??
