I know AC or shade is best choice when available but when you have no access to either....what are the rest of you doing?

I will use wet towels or damp diapers to cool down glass but there has to be some more creative ways to bring temps down prior to repairing.

Anybody willing to share?

I always turn vehicle away from sun and open all doors and all windows and they cool rather quickly for me.

GlasWeldTech,

I'm actually referring to the vehicles where you have no keys, no way of opening windows or doors and can't move them. Vehicles are in blistering sun and glass temps exceed 110-130 degrees F.

What cooling methods are you guys utilizing under these conditions?

No access to the vehicle. I have to say that is really tough of doing wsr repairs. For me i always request for the keys to the car and go with the method that Glasweldtech's mentioned.

I mist w/s with just water spray, very lightly, let evaporate, repeat until temp drops to what you think will be OK. I also use golf, (large) umbrella with suction cups attached to handle and couple of the rib ends to hold it in place to shade W/S. Lots of times I just tell them I'll be back to do it in the evening or morning when the sun is behind the vehicle if that is Ok with them. Cover damage with suction cup before wetting glass.

In most cases if I can't get inside I pass up the job or arrange for another time. Not only is cooling down the glass important but I want to be able to use a mirror and be able to get inside to flex the glass if necessary. A quality repair is my goal - even in cool weather.

I usually just use a towel over the chip and roll down all the windows to cool the glass. I've also found that a towel layed over the Delta UV bubble dome helps keep the glass cool during a repair when no other shade is available.
