How do you keep the bit from "walking" across the glass when attempting to repair a crack? Do you need a special bit?

ther are 2 ways..1 with power off just turn drill bit on glass to scribe a mark or start to drill on an angle..

I like to start off easy. That is no pressure at all, more like lightly.

Hold the drill at a 45` angle make a notch and then stand the drill up properly

The FG701 drill bit sold by DeltaKits comes highly reccommended. Great for drilling--- but like any bit if you're not careful, it can still 'roll' on the glass.

I advocate mrchip's method. Making a tiny pockmark on the glass helps you ease the drill in, plus gives you a visual aid of your target area.

Dremmel set on high, gently ease it down into your pre-made pit at a 45 degree angle. Start off using hardly any pressure. Once the bit has seated itself, steadily increase your pressure as you bring the drill upright. Once upright, go straight into the circular motion and proceed as normal.

Sometimes all you need is a bit of practice. Procure a cracked windshield from a replacement shop and practice your technique 2-3 dozen times until you feel confident.
